Cooler weather with showers, and snow showers at times, will
persist into Friday as low pressure moves slowly across the
upper Ohio Valley. Dry weather returns later this weekend with
warmer conditions into next week.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THURSDAY MORNING/...
KEY MESSAGES:

Evening Update: No significant changes were needed for the
overnight forecast. Scattered showers will continue tonight as
stacked low pressure drifts over the upper Ohio Valley.
Previous Discussion...
The mid level cyclone across the western Great Lakes will
slowly meander its way eastward this evening. Scattered showers
with small /pea size/ hail and wind gusts to 35-40 mph are
possible through early this evening especially in eastern Ohio.
As the boundary layer cools, the higher elevations in the
northern West Virginia mountains will see wet snowflakes mix in.
Overnight lows bottom out in the lower to mid 30s area wide in
wake of the occluded front and northwest wind brings in modest
cold air advection.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM THURSDAY MORNING THROUGH SATURDAY/...
KEY MESSAGES:
- Winter-like weather returns
- Accumulating snow in the West Virginia mountains where winter
headlines are in place. Little if any elsewhere.

H8 temps and low level thickness support snow showers mixing in
and or becoming the dominate precip type for a period of time.
April accumulations are largely predicated on rate and time of
day, so with much of the snow that falls during the day won't
stick unless you are in the Laurels or West Virginia mountains.
Grassy surfaces could see a white coating briefly in the
lowlands, however it won't last long with surface temperatures
and dewpoints well into the 30s and lower 40s.
NBM probs for an inch of snow over 24-48 hours are highest in
the mountains where 6" numbers are around 65% for eastern
Tucker hence a winter storm warning was issued in collab with
Charleston and Baltimore/Washington. This will be a long
duration event, but the enough confidence to see 6" as some
point before melting occurs between squalls / snow showers
during the daylight hours. Wind gusts will be pushing 40 mph, so
near zero visibility is possible and darn near close to blizzard
conditions, but falling short.
With H5 temps in the -24C to -28C with the mid level cyclone
small hail and / or graupel is possible during the day time with
these convective showers both Thursday and Friday.
The weather finally gets out of its winter mode Saturday as mid
level heights slowly build and DAVA moves into the region. This
will lead to drier weather especially in the afternoon as the
last spoke of energy pivots on through the area.
Saturday afternoon temperatures will still be below normal with
daytime highs in the upper 40s with a wind chill in the lower
40s. This is ten degrees below normal.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
KEY MESSAGES:
- A quick warmup and much need dry weather
- Sunday is the better day of the weekend
- Sky cover forecast on Monday still iffy with low confidence
given warm front potentially moving through

A transitory mid level ridge moves across the area Sunday. This
will allow for a quick warm up Sunday as daytime highs climb
back to normal values.
Obviously Monday sky cover forecast will be of extreme interest
across a large portion of the area. The trend of having upper
ridging overhead has been decreasing with a moist southwest flow
across the area ahead of Plains trough. Obviously still five
days away, but current trends are certainly more cloudy. Their
is an even distribution amongst the NBM and ensemble members
anything from mostly cloudy to mostly clear.
The column continues to warm Monday through next week so we will
climb back above normal as we get in the warm sector. Values
likely /60%/ of being 70F or greater most of next week under dry
weather. Much needed dry weather!

.AVIATION /01Z THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
The upper low will approach overnight, bringing a return of MVFR
with some tempo IFR ceilings as the lower levels cool and
saturate, with more widespread precipitation returning late
tonight. Most ports will see rain, but a rain/snow mix or all
snow is possible at FKL/DUJ. Some modest improvement may occur
towards the midday hours with a bit of daytime heating.
Wind gusts are possible Wednesday afternoon of up to 20 knots,
especially where the clouds break.
.Outlook...
Ongoing restrictions, gusty winds, and rain and snow showers
are likely Thursday and Friday under an upper low. VFR returns
Sat under high pressure.

Streams and rivers will begin to crest tonight and tomorrow, but
remain swollen into the weekend. The Ohio river will fall back
below action stage in our farther southwest points Saturday.
