.SHORT TERM...Tonight through Thursday night...Weather concerns
through Wednesday evening include the following...
Smoke and Air Quality: Little or no improvement is expected
through at least Wednesday morning due to several active
wildfires, mainly in southeast Oregon. Southwest winds
developing during the afternoon may temporarily improve
conditions in portions of southwest Idaho. Air Quality Alerts
remain in effect for southeast Oregon and far southwest Idaho.
Heat: There will be one final day (Wednesday) of excessive heat
in the valleys before the ridge weakens and a slight cooling
trend commences on Thursday. Excessive Heat Warnings and Heat
Advisories remain in effect through Wednesday evening.
Thunderstorms: The threat of thunderstorms is limited to areas
near the Nevada border this afternoon and evening. Some of the
storms will be capable of producing gusts to around 40 mph. A
surge of moisture ahead of a cold front on Wednesday will lead
to a better chance (>30 percent) of thunderstorms. Potential
threats include heavy rainfall and severe wind gusts. A Flash
Flood Watch has been issued for a few burn scars in southeast
Oregon Wednesday afternoon and evening. There is a threat of
severe winds of up to 70 mph with the thunderstorms Wednesday
afternoon and evening. The Storm Prediction Center has
blanketed SE Oregon and most of SW Idaho with a marginal risk of
severe thunderstorms due to this risk.
Drier and slightly cooler conditions arrive behind a cold front
on Thursday, although there is still a 30-60 percent chance of
convection in far south-central Idaho.
.LONG TERM...Friday through Tuesday...Moisture/instability
lingers near the ID/NV border south of Twin Falls for a slight
(<20 percent) chance of showers/thunderstorms on Friday,
otherwise expect drier and continued cooler conditions. A weak
shortwave brings showers and thunderstorms to far southern
Idaho Saturday afternoon and evening, which at this point is
the last precipitation event before clearer conditions set in
through Tuesday. Afternoon highs are still forecast to be cooler
than the short term, with lower valley highs remaining below
100. Temperatures will be about normal for this time of year.

.AVIATION...Low VFR/MVFR visibility from smoke, with local IFR
in E Oregon near wildfires. Isolated t-storms near the NV
border and central Idaho until 04Z/Wed, with outflow gusts of
around 25-35 kt. High density altitude due to heat. Surface

5-15 kt.
