...Updated AVIATION discussion...
.DISCUSSION...Satellite image is showing the upper trough just off
the Oregon coast digging which is sending the cold front inland over
the area. Moderate to heavy precipitation is showing up on Radar
pretty much over the westside, with the heaviest precipitation
centered in the Rogue Valley and Siskiyou County.
Moderate to heavy precipitation will continue most of the morning,
then diminishing this afternoon as the cold front pushes inland as
an upper trough moves overhead. Snow levels will be lowering late
this morning and afternoon with road snow accumulation likely around
Crater Lake, Diamond Lake and highway 140 near Lake of the Woods
this afternoon.
The moderate to heavy rain we have had recently is resulting in
rivers rising, and a flood warning remains in effect for the
Coquille River at Coquille, The Rogue River at Agness, and Deer
Creek at Roseburg. Additionally, a Flood Watch remains in effect for
the South Fork Coquille River at Myrtle Point. An Areas Flood
Warning remains in effect for the coastal counties, and Douglas
County, and an areal Flood Watch remains in effect for most of
Jackson and most of Siskiyou County. These areas are the most
prone to urban, small stream, and creek flooding tonight into
Sunday due to excessive rainfall.
We'll also keep a watch on the Scott River at Fort Jones as the
river is rising just above action stage with moderate to heavy
precipitation pushing into this area.
Moderate to strong winds will continue into early this morning along
the coast and Shasta Valley, then will diminish as the front moves
onshore and winds shift to the southwest and gradually diminish.
Wind Advisories and a High Wind Warning remains in effect east of
the Cascades with the strongest winds expected during the morning
hours.
Showers will continue to gradually diminish tonight, with snow
showers lingering along the Cascades. Storm total snow will be
highest around Crater Lake and Diamond Lake and A Winter Weather

We'll catch a break in the weather Monday through Tuesday, then
the pattern will become more active again the latter part of next
week. However the storms are not expected to be as significant as

.AVIATION...29/12Z TAFS...An impactful front continues to bring
moderate to heavy precipitation over northern California and
southern Oregon. Radar is indicating the most activity over Curry,
Josephine, Jackson, and Siskiyou counties. These showers are
bringing flight levels from MVFR to LIFR as they move over the area.
These showers are also capable of obscuring elevated terrain. Snow
levels will drop to 2500 to 3500 feet behind the front through the
day. With post-frontal showers moving to the east, snow showers will
be possible over the Cascades through this TAF period.
Additionally, gusty winds are present east of the Cascades as the
front moves eastward. Low level wind shear remains in guidance
through this morning, with southerly winds at 2000 feet at 40 to 50
kts. Low level wind shear will decrease through the morning. -TAD

.MARINE...Updated 200 AM PST Sunday December 29, 2024....Very
high and steep seas continue in area waters as a front passes over
the area. Gusty southerly winds could reach gale strength, with
the strongest gusts within 10 nm from the coast. Winds and seas
will ease later in the morning as the front continues to move
eastward. Seas will improve this afternoon but remain steep
through Monday evening.
A period of below advisory seas remains in the forecast from Monday
evening into Tuesday evening. An approaching front could build steep
to very steep seas as well as bring another round of gusty gale
winds Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning. Continuing activity
though next weekend could bring additional periods of unsettled

.BEACH HAZARDS...Updated 200 AM PST Sunday December 29, 2024...
Heavy, long period swell dominated seas will continue to produce
dangerous surf conditions through tomorrow morning. Large breaking
waves of 22 to 25 feet are expected through early Sunday morning,
with the worst conditions expected this afternoon.
During these events, extremely large breaking waves will create very
hazardous conditions along beaches and area shorelines. Waves will
inundate beaches and surge into normally dry areas, especially at
times of high tide. Infrastructure damage and significant beach
erosion can be expected. Stay away from area beaches during this
