KEY MESSAGES: - Temperatures trend upward Sunday through Tuesday. - Dry conditions with next chance of scattered rain late Tuesday through early Thursday. WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW: After a dry backdoor cold front moved through our region this morning, an upper level ridge of high pressure will re- build from the Rockies into the high plains through the remainder of this weekend with warmer temperatures expected starting Sunday. Either Monday or Tuesday will be the warmest day of this forecast package. The next Pacific trough pushes onshore early next week, and through the northern Rockies on Tuesday. Precipitation chances increase on late on Tuesday as the upper trough and cold front moves across the state, but the small storm system weakens, and the southwest flow cuts off quickly, limiting the influx of moisture. Ongoing D-2 Severe drought conditions continued across the northeastern third of Richland County. The conditions remained through the end of the month.
Most of Roosevelt County was in D-2 Severe Drought, with D-3 Extreme Drought in the north central part of the county. In the last week of September, the western border of eastern Roosevelt County improved to D-1 Moderate Drought.
To start September, the middle third of Sheridan County was in D-3 Extreme Drought, with a majority of the remainder of the county remaining in D-2 Severe drought. On the last week of September the western border of Sheridan County improved to D-1 Moderate drought.
