.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure will continue to impact the region with precipitation
tonight before rain tapers off after midnight. High pressure will
begin to build in tomorrow but snow squalls may be possible for
some areas during the period. High pressure holds influence
over the region Sunday night through Thursday. Next low pressure
system looks to impact the region around the time frame of Friday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Forecast running on track as rain continues to spread into the
region as a strengthening low pressure system approaches. The
primary low is now located over southern Ontario and will move
into southern Quebec through this evening. An associated cold
front extends southward trailing the primary low down across the
Appalachians toward the northern Gulf Coast. Along this
boundary is a quickly developing and strengthening secondary low
which will impact the region this evening before lifting to the
north and east.
As a result, the rain that is falling across the area will only
become heavier through the evening hours as the secondary low
takes aim. The timing for the heaviest rain is forecast to fall
between 5 pm to 7 pm to 10 pm to midnight from southwest to
northeast, before moving away from the area. Despite forecast
soundings showing minimal surface instability, the strong upper
dynamics of the deepening low support a bit of elevated
instability available to tap into. Roughly 500 J/kg of MUCAPE
will be around tonight as the secondary low crosses the area, so
there remains at least a slight chance for some rumbles of
thunder. This mainly will be along the I-95 corridor to the
coast but do not expect any widespread thunderstorms. As this
occurs, temps tonight will briefly rise into the 50s for most
locations as a strong southeasterly wind becomes enhanced ahead
of the deepening low. Winds may occasionally gust up to 40-45
mph for a brief period. Regardless, widespread moderate to heavy
rainfall is expected before tapering off before/around
midnight. In short, this will be a quick hitting system but will
provide some moderate to heavy rainfall. For totals, refer to
the Hydrology section below which provides a more in-depth
analysis on the heavy rain threat. Otherwise, after the low and
cold front pass through, skies will partially clear, winds will
sharply turn to the west, and temps will fall back into the 40s.
For Sunday, the upper level trough will pivot across the Eastern US
as some shortwave energy swings through during the afternoon hours.
At the surface, our area will be wedged between the departing low
and a surface high near the lower Mississippi River Valley. This
will result in a very strong pressure gradient setting up across the
Mid-Atlantic region as strongly westerly flow will be paired with
cold air advection. As the base of the upper trough pivots through,
850mb winds are forecast to be up around 40-45 kt across the
southern half of our area during the afternoon. Plentiful of
boundary layer mixing and drying at low levels is expected, so some
of these areas should be able to tap into some of the higher winds.
As a result, have issued a Wind Advisory for the southern portions
of the area beginning 2 PM on Sunday. Gusts up to 50 mph are
possible in these areas.
Also, will need to monitor the potential for some snow/rain showers
(possibly squalls) associated with the shortwave during the
afternoon as lapse rates are rather steep while being paired with
elevated winds. The threat with this is low at this time, but given
the nature of the atmosphere, cannot rule this out entirely. Any
accumulations will be minimal, but up to an inch of fresh snow is
possible up in the Poconos. In fact, have included most of the area
with at least a slight chance of a rain/snow shower on Sunday before
tapering off late. Skies will be mostly cloudy for much of the day
to the north, although there may be a few breaks of sun in the
morning; especially south of Philly. Highs on Sunday will range from
the upper 30s north and west, with 40s to near 50 elsewhere.

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Strong occluding surface low pressure to our northeast Sunday
night will continue to push northeastwards with time as surface
high pressure builds in from the west. This synoptic evolution
will continue through the duration of the short term; low
pressure will continue to move out to our northeast as high
pressure from the west moves eastward with time.
With strong and still strengthening low pressure to our
northeast and high pressure building in from the west, a strong
pressure gradient will continue to develop over the region
Sunday night and Monday. This gradient will begin to relax some
Monday night but should still be felt some into Tuesday. Strong
winds and gusts are anticipated Sunday night and Monday. Gusts
are anticipated to range from 35-45 mph Sunday night and only
increase for the Monday time frame. Gusts of 40-50 mph are
anticipated across the entire region Monday. Given the
confidence in wind occurrence, wind advisories are now in
effect.
Otherwise, with high pressure building in PoP should not really
be anticipated during the short term. Guidance continues to
indicate some snow showers may linger for our more northwestern
areas Sunday night, but these showers should not include the
snow squall potential seen during the near term period given the
environment. Ultimately, will include some slight chance PoPs
for Carbon and Monroe counties in PA Sunday night. No PoP is
included in today's short term forecast otherwise.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Ensembles and deterministic guidance support surface high
pressure influencing the region through much of the long term.
The pattern looks to become unsettled again by the time frame of
Friday or so as waves of low pressure arrive and look to pass
through the eastern CONUS.
Not much to write home about regarding the long term today. With
high pressure in control no PoP is anticipated Tuesday night through
at least Thursday. Next chance of PoP for the region is mainly
Friday into the start of the weekend due to waves of surface low
pressure. Temperatures will look to run above average through
the long term.

.AVIATION /00Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.
Tonight...Mostly IFR/LIFR expected through the evening hours
with periods of heavy rain likely. Slight chance of a
thunderstorm near KMIV/KACY. Rain should begin to taper off
between 04Z-06Z with only some residual mist/drizzle lingering.
SE winds around 10-20 kt early will become W winds around 10-15
kt with gusts up to 20-25 kt possible after midnight. LLWS at
2000 ft for SE winds 45 kt to 55 kt through 03Z to 04Z. Low
confidence overall.
Sunday...Any linger MVFR ceilings, should lift to VFR. A slight
chance of a rain or snow shower is possible at all terminals. W
winds around 20 kt with gusts up to 30-35 kt. Locally higher gusts
up to 40 kt are possible at KPHL/KILG/KMIV/KACY. Moderate to high

ocean waters before the Gale Warning becomes effective at 6PM

kt are possible this evening. Winds will shift to a westerly
component overnight as a cold front passes by. A brief break in the
winds will occur during this time. Another period of gale force
winds then occur on Sunday where sustained winds of 20-30 kt with
gusts up to 40 kt effect all areas including the Delaware Bay. Seas
of 6-9 feet expected through Sunday.

.HYDROLOGY...
The latest in a series of systems is bringing the area another round
of rain. Rain has moved in and expect it to become moderate to heavy
at times this evening, especially for areas near and north of the
urban corridor where we expect the system to bring a general 1.00 to
2.00 inches of rainfall (south of here it will be more like .50 to
1.00 inches of rainfall). With all the recent rain we've received,
creeks, streams, and rivers are running high and are more prone to
flooding. And this said, river flooding is expected across portions
of the Passaic and Raritan basins beginning on Sunday.
In fact as Saturday afternoon, we've issued Flood Warnings for the
Passaic at Pinebrook and the Millstone at Blackwell Mills where
confidence in flooding occurring is highest. In fact Pinebrook is
forecast to crest at MODERATE flooding levels Sunday night as
unfortunately this area will likely see the heaviest rain from the
system with close to 2 inches forecast. Smaller creeks and streams
could overflow tonight. Low lying and poor drainage flooding could
also commence tonight as much of the rain appears to fall in a
relatively short period this evening.
A Flood Watch remains in effect for all of our eastern PA zones
(where the forecast rainfall is generally highest) as well as for
much of NJ excluding the coast and far southern areas.
We attach words like MINOR and MODERATE to river flooding. What do
these words mean?
MINOR FLOODING: Minimal to no property damage, but some public
threat can be expected (e.g. inundation of roads).
MODERATE FLOODING: Some inundation of structures and roads near
streams/rivers are expected. Evacuations of people and/or the

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
The trend of increasing onshore flow with the upcoming storm
has continued to lead to forecasts of higher tidal levels.
Consequently, Coastal Flood Watches have been upgrade to
Warnings the upper most part of Delaware Bay and for the tidal
Delaware River. Additionally, Advisories have been upgraded to
Warnings along the lower portions of the Delaware Bay. Coastal
Flood Advisories remain in effect for the remaining tidal areas
of our CWA, including our counties on the Maryland Eastern
Shore. These headlines are in effect today into Sunday.
Onshore has already been bringing levels minor flooding for the
high tide cycle today. The following tide this evening and into
Sunday morning will have the greatest possibility for reaching
MODERATE levels along the Delaware Bay and the tidal Delaware
River. The storm system had trended a bit slower, so with the
possibility of the enhanced tides reaching into Sunday, we
previously went to three high tides cycles with the headlines
for now. The winds will switch around to offshore Sunday and
hopefully then a trend back to lower levels will arrive before
the afternoon high tides at the Delaware Bay and Delaware River.

At 744 PM EST, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms with
little or no lightning along a line extending from near Bear to 6
miles south of West Cape May. Movement was northeast at 50 mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph.
