A father and son were pulled from the ocean near Pacifica on January 14. At 12:52 PM, two fire companies, a rescue unit, a CHP helicopter, state park personnel and Coast Guard air and water units responded to the two people struggling in the water north of Mori Point. Rescue swimmers pulled the two people from the water and took them to ambulances, which transported them to San Francisco General Hospital. At the time of the rescue, the San Francisco buoy (46026) reported waves of 2.7 meters (9 feet) at 15 seconds, with a water temperature of 12.5 degrees Celsius (54.5 degrees Fahrenheit).

Rain and wind continue tonight as a cold front moves over the
region. Fair weather will return early next week with warming
temperatures and returning shower chances by midweek.

At this time, rain has exited much of the North Bay, though
showers continue over the great SF Bay region, and continue to
push southward. At this time, no flood products have been issued
as very few impacts have been reported, such as nuisance flooding.
A few responses in small creeks and streams have been seen, but
nothing has achieved flood stage. Although the event is not over
yet, let's take a quick look at rainfall totals so far over the
last 12 hours: Santa Rosa had 0.82", Petaluma 0.55", San Francisco
about 0.71", Berkeley 0.60", San Jose and south to Monterey all
below 0.10".

.SHORT TERM...
(Tonight through Sunday)

After a break in the afternoon, the main band of steady moderate
rain is moving from N to S across the Bay area this evening as a
cold front sweeps through the region. The actual surface front is
somewhat hard to pinpoint with weak thermodynamics and a lagging
wind shift. The Point Arena Buoy recorded a sharp wind shift from
SW at 5:50 PM to NW by 7:50 PM. The main band of precip is well
south of this wind shift and will clear the Golden Gate within
the hour. There are some isolated reports of minor roadway
flooding, but the rain rate should abate as the front progresses
south. Most areas south of San Francisco/Oakland can expect about
1/4-1/2" tonight. Given the flow pattern (W-SW) and progressive
fropa, rain shadowing will be in full effect for the Santa Clara
Valley and Salinas Valley. A few lingering showers are possible
along the Central Coast on Sunday morning, but overall it will be
a pleasant day with moderate temperature, wind, and partly cloudy
skies across the area.

Dry weather to start the work week with seasonal daytime highs
and cool overnight lows. Medium range guidance continues to
advertise another round of rain the middle of next week. Rain
showers are back in the forecast beginning over the North Bay as
early as Tuesday before move S and E Tuesday night. Another break
in the precip Thursday before another weak bring additional precip
late next week.

(06Z TAFS)

MVFR conditions. Ceiling heights and visibilities have been
fluctuating as the main rain band has moved southward through the
Bay Area. The main band of rain should reach the Central Coast
within the next hour with MVFR conditions expected to develop at
KMRY and KSNS between 06-07Z. Guidance still shows some possibility
of IFR conditions at KSTS and KAPC overnight but confidence remains
low to moderate. Gusty SW winds have started in the North Bay and
the Bay Area and will continue until the early morning. MVFR-IFR
ceilings will linger through late tomorrow morning before VFR
conditions return.
Vicinity of SFO...The main band of rain is still passing over SFO
with lowered visibility and ceilings possible. SW winds are starting
to strengthen with gusts up to 30kts forecast. Gusty winds will
continue into the early morning before winds transition more NW and
start to weaken. Gusts are not expected to reach AWW criteria.
Moderate confidence that MVFR ceilings will linger overnight before
VFR ceilings returning by mid tomorrow morning.
SFO Bridge Approach...Similar to SFO.
Monterey Bay Terminals...Radar shows the main band of rain just
about to enter the Central Coast (between 06-07Z) with showers
expected to continue through the early morning. Once the band
reaches KMRY and KSNS MVFR ceilings and visibilities will develop
and linger until mid morning. Guidance suggests that IFR conditions
may develop during the early to mid morning hours (13-18Z) but
confidence remains on the lower end. After the front passes, SW
winds will weaken and transition to light, variable NW winds.

(Tonight through next Thursday)

A weak cold front is crossing the coastal waters of the Bay Area
this evening. Moderate rain and fresh to strong SW winds are
ongoing ahead of the front. Winds will shift and decrease to
moderate northwesterlies over the next 12 hours as rough seas
abate. A quick moving cold front will bring more rain and
regenerate strong SW winds in the northern zones Tuesday.
Otherwise, after the small craft advisories expire Sunday, mostly
moderate winds and seas will dominate through the week.

A dog and its owner were swept out to sea at Sharp Point near Pacifica. The dog was swept out and the owner went in after the dog. The dog made it back to shore, but the owner struggled to return. Video taken at the scene showed rescue swimmers assisting the man onto shore, and the owner was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.
