.SYNOPSIS...Strong high pressure will bring hot and dry conditions
through the weekend. Monsoonal moisture is forecast to arrive to
Utah early next week bringing an increase in showers and
thunderstorms to the region.

.SHORT TERM (Through 12Z Monday)...Strong high pressure is
forecast to be our main weather maker through the weekend.
Overall, the weather forecast has not changed much since the last
update. The uncertainty in this short term forecast lies in shower
and thunderstorm chances tomorrow. Several short term convective
models are favoring low end (less than 30% chance) of early
morning showers (and mostly cloudy skies) across northern Utah
tomorrow; which would simply be more of a nuisance if a shower
does develop but it is a change from previous thinking. Afternoon
and evening shower and thunderstorm development are once again in
the forecast across the higher terrain areas of southern and
central Utah in particular. What has been consistent has been the
hot and dry conditions that are expected, particularly in the
lower elevations. While increasing cloud cover is anticipated
tomorrow it looks like a mostly cloudy sky will make an appearance
later in the evening into Monday morning time frame across
northern Utah. Otherwise, during the day, skies look to be mostly
clear and heat should be allowed to increase as forecast.
Excessive heat warnings and heat advisories will remain in place
across much of the states resulting from abnormally high
temperatures and minimal recoveries overnight both tonight and
Sunday night / Monday morning.
.LONG TERM (After 12Z Monday)...High pressure over the Four
Corners region continues to vary in strength and position as a
somewhat active northern branch continues to eject shortwaves
along the U.S.- Canadian border, at times flattening the ridge
with height falls forecast along the Utah-Idaho border. As a
result, high temps will remain very warm along with overnight
lows, but the modulation of the ridge will prevent the same
extremes present over the weekend prior.
As moisture continues to work its way around the western edge of he
high, some portion will make it into the region and persist at
moderate values throughout the week. While a more established
monsoonal flow is noted in AZ and especially NM and SW CO, Utah is
just catching the western periphery of the available moisture, and
will take the ridge establishing itself with a more steady-state
amplitude and position with axis slightly further east than forecast
to bring more potent monsoonal flow into the region. That said,
expecting daily precipitation chances across most of the forecast
area through next week. For now, no particular day stands out as
most impactful, but noting Weds-Thurs may see better dynamics for
precipitation across the northern half of the area given 30% of the
ensemble membership pushing height falls more significant than the
mean solutions.
Not much change expected in the long term, though by next weekend,
30% of the ensemble membership begins to push a more potent trough
into the area that could displace the ridge considerably. At the
same time, a competing 12% suggest the ridge amplifying to the
strongest we've seen this season so far. Mean solutions continue a
near steady-state scenario as forecast for this upcoming week.

.AVIATION...KSLC...VFR conditions will prevail throughout the period
for the KSLC terminal. High pressure will keep skies mostly clear
and conditions dry. Light northerly winds will transition to
southerly drainage flow ~05Z.
.REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...VFR conditions will prevail
for all terminals throughout the area. High pressure will keep skies
mostly clear and conditions dry. Isolated thunderstorms are possible
through the early evening near the UT/NV border. Otherwise, winds
will be light and diurnally driven.

.FIRE WEATHER...Hot temperatures are noted this afternoon with
critically dry conditions across lower elevations areas resulting
from strong high pressure over southern Utah. Chances for showers
and thunderstorms are noted across western Utah this evening with
wetting rain potentials less than 20 percent. Otherwise, the
center of high pressure is forecast to settle over the four
corners tomorrow with continued hot and dry conditions forecast
for most of Utah. The rub in the ointment will be how much
precipitation chances and/or cloud cover will reduce temperatures
across the region as south to southwest flow open up the channel
for moisture flow. Eastern Utah zones look to remain mostly
remain hot and dry with min RH values forecast in the single
digits and a less than 10 percent chance for rain showers. Breezy
south to southwest winds remain in the forecast during the
afternoon/early evening hours with gusts to 25 mph Sunday
and Monday. Pockets of 30 mph gusts are possible. Isolated to
scattered shower and thunderstorm chances remain in the forecast
Tuesday into Wednesday for much of the region.

Paria Contact Station personnel relayed a pubic report with photos of active flash flooding ongoing in Buckskin Gulch at House Rock Valley Road. This was the result of several hours of rain and thunderstorms, with Multi-Radar/Multi-Sensor system rainfall estimates of approximately 0.50 to 1.50 around much of the area.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms impacted the Halfway Hill Fire burn scar area during the afternoon hours. Subsequently, the Millard County Emergency Manager reported that there were heavy flows out of Copleys Canyon within the burn scar, with flows and debris across the main canyon road and into a campground. This required rock and debris removal.
The US-40 at MP 66 Fruitland mesonet station recorded an initial peak gust of 64 mph at 2:20 pm MST, and a subsequent strong gust of 58 mph at 2:30 pm MST. These gusts were a result of outflow winds associated with a cluster of showers and thunderstorms moving through the area.
A 10-inch-diameter tree branch broke off and fell onto electrical wires in Tooele as a result of strong thunderstorm related outflow winds in the area.
The Bryce Canyon Airport ASOS recorded a wind gust of 61 mph as a result of outflow winds associated with a nearby cluster of showers and thunderstorms moving through the area.
Large tree limbs were downed in Salt Lake City as a result of strong thunderstorm related outflow winds in the area.
The LUCIN2 mesonet station recorded a wind gust of 64 mph as a result of outflow winds associated with a nearby cluster of showers and thunderstorms moving through the area.
The Provo Canyon mesonet station recorded a wind gust of 63 mph as a result of outflow winds associated with a nearby cluster of showers and thunderstorms moving through the area.
