(06Z TAF Issuance) Issued at 1140 PM CDT Thu Aug 31 2023 VFR for the next 24+ hours. 47 && .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Friday Night) Issued at 320 PM CDT Thu Aug 31 2023 Little to no change in the short term forecast for SE Texas. An upper level trough/low is expected to loom overhead as we head into the weekend. Guidance leaves a stout cap in place, with near zero rain chances over the next 30 hours or so. Northeasterly flow and mixing should keep conditions on the drier side, with afternoon dewpoints dropping into the 50s/60s inland. Even with highs in the 90s to lower 100s, those lower afternoon dewpoints should make the heat much more manageable compared to the last several weeks. These drier conditions should also keep overnight lows in the upper 60s/70s. Moisture is progged to return this weekend, so enjoy the drier weather while you still can. 03 && .LONG TERM... (Saturday through next Wednesday) Issued at 320 PM CDT Thu Aug 31 2023 Mid to upper level low will be lingering in/around the area over the weekend. With moisture levels gradually on the rise, look for increasing mainly daytime shower and thunderstorm chances. On Saturday, the higher chances will be near/around the Galveston Bay area, and chances closer to the Brazos Valley will be near zero. On Sunday, all Southeast Texas area rain chances will be on the rise (again, highest in/around the Galveston Bay area with decreasing chances the further off to the northwest you go). Monday and Tuesday will be similar to Sunday, but after that mid/upper level ridging looks to begin to build back into the area from the west. Look for decreasing rain chances beginning on Wednesday and likely continuing through the end of the week. Areas that experience increasing cloud cover and associated rains will see lower afternoon high temperatures (highs mostly in the 90s), and that should probably happen beginning on Monday and continuing into Tuesday for most locations. If the decrease in clouds and rains occurs as expected on Wednesday, anticipate afternoon high temperatures to get a little warmer. We will need to monitor heat index values through the period, and some areas might end up needing a Heat Advisory. 42 && .MARINE... Issued at 320 PM CDT Thu Aug 31 2023 Light to occasionally moderate winds and low seas will persist at the end of the week and on through the weekend. A more prevalent onshore flow will become established at the end of the weekend and will continue into the first half of next week (also expect periods of showers and thunderstorms). Seas should remain on the low side, but expect higher levels in and near any storms. 42 && .FIRE WEATHER... Issued at 320 PM CDT Thu Aug 31 2023 Dry fuels remain abundant across Southeast Texas with afternoon relative humidity expected to bottom out around 20% to 30% for the end of the week. Meanwhile, winds should generally be under 10 mph, with gusts approaching 10 to 15 mph. These lighter winds should help limit fire growth potential, being insufficient in strength for Red Flag Warnings. However, dry conditions will still leave the region fire-prone with burn bans remaining in place for all counties in Southeast Texas. August records date back to 1930. -Average high of 101.8 degrees is 8.3 degrees above normal and is the warmest August on record (current 1st place is 99.7 degrees in 2011). Six of their top 10 warmest have occurred since 2000. August 2023's average high will also go down as Hobby's warmest on any month on record. -Average low of 80.7 degrees is 4.0 degrees above normal and is the warmest August on record (current 1st place is 79.2 degrees set in 2011). All ten of their warmest have occurred since 2007. August 2023's average low will also go down as Hobby's warmest on any month on record. -Average of 91.3 degrees is 6.2 degrees above normal and is the warmest August on record (current 1st place is 89.1 degrees set in 2011).
