Latest (2PM CT) observations show the development of dangerous
heat conditions across the area, as ambient temperatures have
neared the triple digits while heat indicies have reached
approximately 106-112 degrees across the area. With 1-2 more hours
of diurnal heating, it's possible we see some sites reach 100 and
daily records remain breakable at IAH, HOU, and GLS. Nonetheless,
those with outdoor plans for the rest of the day should be
especially cognizant of heat safety precautions.
To our north, the development of widespread severe convection late
this afternoon and into the evening should stay largely out of our
forecast area, as reflected in the most recent high resolution models.
However, the movement of an isolated strong storm into our far
northern zones cannot fully be ruled out, and the potential for
this will likely be tied to the exact development of individual
storms tonight and the associated formation of any outflow
boundaries. Should an isolated storm impact the northern zones,
the approximate time window would be from 10p - 2a CT.
Tomorrow, our attention turns to the potential for very dangerous
heat conditions area wide. The same contributing factors are at
play as a midlevel ridge remains situated just to our west, SW
winds persist at the midlevels, and moderate southerly winds
continue at the surface. Slight increases in midlevel heights
point to a marginally warmer day tomorrow that will have the
potential to push heat index values towards warning territory
(113). Given this, an Excessive Heat Watch will be in effect
beginning tomorrow afternoon. This may be upgraded to a Warning
depending on how conditions develop during the day. Overall,
inland areas look to reach near 100 for highs while the immediate
coast will reach the mid 90s. Dew points may vary depending on
afternoon mixing, but overall maximum HI values look to reach
around 110 to 114. Overnight lows tomorrow night will struggle to
fall much below 80, aided by the development of low-level cloud
cover after sunset.
Heat safety precautions will be critical tomorrow, as this is
shaping up to be one of the hottest weekends in our area in recent
times. Taking protective actions such as staying hydrated, wearing
loose and light clothing, applying sunscreen, and taking plenty of
breaks if outdoors are extremely important to prevent heat-related
illnesses. Be sure to check in on those vulnerable to heat-
related conditions, such as the elderly and chronically ill.

Saturday is shaping up to be one of most impactful heat days in
our area over the last several years. Same conditions continue to
drive the excessive heat as discussed above, with little change to
the synoptic pattern expected. Forecast maximum heat index values
will reach as high as the mid 110s in some locations, making the
potential for the aforementioned Excessive Heat Watch to become a
Warning relatively high. Given the large amount of outdoor
activities occuring during the holiday weekend, heat safety
precautions will remain extremely critical! Overnight lows again
will hover around 80 degrees.
Excessive heat conditions will continue on Sunday and persist
throughout the upcoming week as the midlevel ridge continues to
dominate the synoptic pattern over the south central CONUS. As
such, we can expect several more days of high temperatures near
100, maximum heat index values in excess of 105, moderate onshore
winds, and low temperatures in the upper 70s to around 80.
Additional Heat Advisories and/or Excessive Heat Warnings will
likely be needed throughout next week and potentially even into
next weekend as the pattern shows little sign of diminishing.

No major changes with this package as MVFR ceilings continue to de-
velop and spread north from the southern parts of the area tonight.
Some patchy fog could accompany these low clouds by sunrise. All of
this is expected to mix out by mid/late morning with VFR conditions
areawide through Fri afternoon. Generally light south winds will be
in place overnight (4-8kts)...increasing late tomorrow morning (10-
15kts with gusts up to 25kts possible). Have also included the men-
tion of MVFR ceilings returning tomorrow evening/night. 41

Moderate onshore winds will continue for the foreseeable future,
with seas remaining around 3-5 feet. Caution flags will be
required at times as winds hover in the vicinity of 15 knots.
Strong rip currents will be possible along Gulf-facing beaches as
this pattern persists throughout the weekend and into the upcoming
week next week.
