This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for west central Minnesota and
northeast South Dakota.

.DAY ONE...Today and tonight.

Winds out of the north 25 to 30 mph will gust 35 to around 45 mph
today. The combination of dry grasses and gusty winds will result in
grassland fire danger rating values will be in the very high
category today with dangerous burning conditions. Outdoor burning is not
recommended as fires could spread rapidly.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Monday through Saturday.

Grassland fire danger rating values will be in the very high category
again Monday due to the dry and very low moisture content of
grasses, and other dry organic material on the ground. Outdoor
burning is not recommended as fires could spread rapidly.

The James River near Columbia started the month at 17.80 feet, and crested at 18.07 feet on May 13th, and has been more or less steady with a slight trend downwards through the latter half of May. Impacts are limited to flooding of agricultural lands.

The James River near Ashton was initially in decline at the start of the month which lasted through May 4th, though a second crest was observed on May 17th at 16.71 feet, followed again by a steady decline that lasted through the end of May. With this May crest, the main impact is to agricultural lands, however a bridge near the gauge site has been under water for most of the month.

The James River near Stratford has been in flood since April and peaked at 17.79 feet on May 19th, after which there has been a slow steady decline through the end of the month of May. Mainly agricultural lands are impacted, however at least one county road and one bridge have experienced water inundation during the course of the month.
