.SYNOPSIS...An upper trough is settling across the region today,
bringing robust winds, colder conditions, and areas of frost to
the silver state. This inclement weather will persist into mid
week before the trough weakens. This trough will cause light rain
showers and high elevation snow showers through the same time
frame for northern and eastern Nevada.

.SHORT TERM...Today and Monday.

A large lenticular field across the silver state shows the arrival
of a trough and colder air that will persist for several days.
The moisture field associated with the trough can cause an
isolated shower or a thunderstorm today (20-30%) along the
northern border of NV for today. This moisture is expected to push
into eastern NV tomorrow with isolated showers and thunderstorms
for northern and eastern NV (20-30%). With the colder air moving
in with this system the showers will be snow at high elevations.
None of these showers or thunderstorms are expected to produce
much accumulation of any precipitation for both today and Monday.
What this system is producing in spades is robust westerly gusty
winds across the silver state with gusts in the 30s to 40s mph
today and again for Monday. Some areas could even see an errant
gust or two reach into the 50s mph range. These winds are picking
up dust today and are expected to do the same for Monday leading
to reduced air quality and visibilities. The winds will make
travel difficult especially on N/S routes and for high profile
vehicles. A Wind Advisory remains in effect through this evening
with another Wind Advisory for Monday afternoon and evening to
account for these robust winds. As colder air is moved across the
silver state expect the highs of 70s and 80s today to fall to 60s
and 70s with a few spots of 50s for Monday. Overnight will see the
biggest drops with 30s to 40s for tonight falling to 20s to 30s
for Monday night. Frost is expected for mainly northern NV tonight
and almost all NV for Monday night. This can adversely impact
plants so take precautions to prevent frost and freeze damage.

.LONG TERM...Tuesday through next Sunday

In far northern Elko and Humboldt counties, rain and snow showers
are expected Tuesday. It will remain dry across Northern and
Central Nevada Wednesday and Thursday with lows in the 30s and
highs in the 70/80 degree range. However, a low pressure system
will move through Central and Northern Nevada on Friday resulting
in precipitation for Northern Nevada and southwest wind gusts
ranging from 20 to 30 mph in the afternoon. The likelihood of
thunderstorms Friday is 10 to 20%. A ridge will build next weekend
bringing dry and more seasonal temperatures to Northern and
Central Nevada.

.AVIATION...Wind gusts at KEKO, KWMC and KBAM will continue to
range from 30 to 35 knots and blowing dust could reduce visibility
through the evening hours. Calmer winds are expected at KELY and
KTPH today.  Tomorrow, wind gusts ranging from 30 to 35 knots will
return to KEKO, KWMC and KBAM in the afternoon and evening hours.

.HYDROLOGY...Portions of the Humboldt River continue to run
elevated, and Flood Warnings remain in effect for the Comus and
Battle Mountain locations. Outside of the Humboldt, there is also
a Flood Advisory still in effect for Lamoille Creek. Drier
conditions are expected to continue across the area through Monday,
and may help to mitigate some flooding concerns.
