Isolated afternoon high based thunderstorms become a daily occurrence, mostly for the central Nevada mountains. && .SHORT TERM...Tonight through Tuesday night... High pressure remains centered over the Desert Southwest, but high level moisture will be circulating across Nevada. Strong daytime heating and steep afternoon lapse rates will trigger isolated storms this afternoon. Most storms will be across northern Nevada due to a sheared short wave across Oregon and Idaho, but a few storms will occur over central part of the state. Tuesday, drier Pacific air spreads across the far northern portion of Nevada. The moisture stream continues across central Nevada for scattered showers and thunderstorms. While most storms are high based, some rain will reach the ground as precipitable water will range from 0.75” to 1.00”. .LONG TERM...Wednesday through next Monday. Ensemble solutions do not show much spread through the extended period. The subtropical high remains “locked” over the Desert Southwest. Some high based moisture may stream across Nevada on Wednesday and Thursday for afternoon thunderstorms. Above normal summer heat continues, with triple digits returning Friday and the upcoming weekend. && .AVIATION... VFR conditions will prevail for all terminals through Tuesday morning. A 15-20% chance of isolated -SHRA/-TSRA along with elevated winds this afternoon and evening for portions of northern and central NV. The next round of isolated to scattered TSRA on Tuesday will be focused across centraL NV, with a 30-40% chance for KELY and less than 15% for KTPH. Sustained W-SW winds will increase up to 10-15 kts Tuesday afternoon for all TAF sites with gusts approaching 20 kts. KELY and KWMC remain AMD NOT SKED. && .FIRE WEATHER... Fuels continue to dry, but still labeled “approaching critical”. While spotty showers may accompany afternoon thunderstorms, particularly over the central Nevada mountains, significant precipitation or wetting rain is very low (10%). Breezy this afternoon with some gusts reaching 30 mph.
