A mix of freezing drizzle and light snow traversed southeast from late on December 30th in the early morning hours of New Year's Eve. Increased winds and below freezing temperatures during the afternoon hours of December 30th preceded initial freezing drizzle and resulted in rapid freezing on roadways. Multiple slide offs were reported across southeast Minnesota due the the rapid deterioration of road conditions including along Interstate 90, Minnesota State Highway 218 (Mower County), and Minnesota State Highway 43 (Winona County). The icy road conditions also resulted in Rochester (Olmsted County) Public Transit ceasing services on the evening of December 30th.
