For today and Tue, the NBMdet is trying to lower temps toward the
NBM75 today and the NBM50 for Tue. This is not all that surprising
since there will be more cloud cover around and more sh/ts activity
but will stay a bit closer to the going official fcast for today and
bring temps a bit lower for Tue. Convective temps remain around 100F
so convective initiation will be later in the day again after all
the activity decays from overnight. There is a weakness at 2400ft
and another at 4kft and this will help things get started and remain
around a bit longer. But strong cored storms are a good bet again
today which will bring the possibility of large hail and damaging
winds. We have brought haze due to smoke in the zones for today and
will mix this out by 11am today as the sfc inversion decays through
the morning. This will be the case again Tue as well as far as
storms are concerned but smoke may get partially cleaned with
rainfall in areas that get it. Heat advisory will remain for today,
but all heat headlines should be dropped for Tue, at least this is
the way it looks for now. Most of the area should see rain between
today and Tue. Some maps depict a staionary boundary at the sfc in
our area, but there are no air mass differences at the sfc noted.
The trouging just off the sfc is evident though. But there will be
as sfc boundary, at least indicated by dew pt gradients by Tue
morning along a line from near Monroe to Alexandria to Beaumont TX.
This is due to the intensifying hurricane at that time along with a
dropping short wave bringing in some dry air at the sfc for Tue.
As far as Idalia is concerned, the fcast for this system is looking
quite good. Timing is always everything with any of these systems,
so the sooner it starts moving the better. The system will contend
with two short waves digging the base of the east coast upper long
wave trough over the next few days. The first is moving SSW through
eastern Oklahoma this morning and will move into south TX by Tue.
The next and most important one is currently dropping into northern
Saskatchewan this morning. It is this short wave that finally picks
up Idalia and starts to turn it ENE then NE out over FL and into the
Atlantic. This short wave can be seen as a speed max at H3 but is
also reflected at H85 as it is causing winds at that level to shift
from a NW flow to a W and even SW flow right along the frontal sfc.
These features are already found in satellite feeds which adds more
confidence to the fcast. But again, we sure would like to see some
movement today.

We will see most if not all storms dry up by Wed. This will be due
to a normal process of Idalia wrapping the front into the area on
its west side. Even though, this will definitely feel better, it
won't help the fire situation with northerly dry air spilling over
the area. The only thing that could help will be the possibility of
some wetting rainfall today and Tue. But anticendent conditions have
been so dry that the ground and vegetation would likely soak this up
in no time. These conditions will remain through Thu before rapidly
moving back north Thu night into Fri. The central CONUS ridging has
given up yet and temps will be climbing once again toward the end of
the week. Deeper moiture and PWs potentially moving north of 2" will
begin to filter into the area by late Fri into Sat. This looks to
bring at leats a normal distribution of sh/ts to the area again for
the weekend. Strong dry air surges in the easterlies then filter in
again possibly as early as Sun.

Mostly VFR through this fcast but a few sites could observe reduced
vis due to FU until the sfc inversion mixes out between 10-11am. The
lowest vis would be found during the hours around sunrise as the sfc
inversion will be strongest causing the least mixing.

An approaching cold front will lead to an increase in convection
over the local waters. Outside of convection, favorable marine
conditions are anticipated today with locally higher winds over the
tidal lake and sounds during the evening and overnight hours. Seas
and winds will gradually increase as Idalia strenghtens and moves
north over the next few days. SCA for winds and seas could be needed
early to middle part of this week before some improvement takes
place as Idalia moves away from our region into the Atlantic.
