What happened

The episode as NWS PAH wrote it up.

A period of light freezing rain caused very icy conditions during the overnight and early morning hours. Some places received up to a tenth of an inch of ice, mainly in the Carbondale and Marion areas. The precipitation fell in a cold northeast wind flow around a strong high pressure system over the Plains. Moist southwest winds above the surface cold air generated areas of light freezing rain.
