Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Hanford CA 1156 PM PDT Sun Aug 13 2023 .SYNOPSIS... Easterly flow continues to bring an influx of moisture associated with the remnants of Eugene. This will allow for instability and a chance of showers and thunderstorms across the Mojave Desert and Sierra Nevada this afternoon, lasting through the evening. A warming trend is forecast to commence starting this afternoon, bringing afternoon highs 10 degrees above average across Central California by the middle of the week. .DISCUSSION... Satellite imagery continues to show the moisture associated with the remnants of TS Eugene. This will stick around for at least another day providing enough instability to support afternoon shower and thunderstorm activity for much of our Sierra Nevada zones. Stray thunderstorms/showers pushing into the valleys is not out of the question either for this afternoon and evening. A ridge of high pressure is expected to build throughout the week allowing for afternoon highs to climb back into the triple digit range. Probabilities for reaching at least 100F beginning Monday for valley locations sits near 100% per the latest NBM guidance. Values remain 90% or higher through Thursday afternoon. By Friday, temperatures will again creep back down near normal and by the weekend locations throughout the CWA will see high temperatures a few degrees below seasonal norms. With the increased temperatures this week, heat risk values climb back into the Moderate to Major categories which has lead to the issuance of the Heat Advisory for valley locations and coastal ranges. Overnight lows will sit almost 10 degrees above normal which helps to contribute to these dangerous heat risk levels. && .DISCUSSION... && .AVIATION...Areas of MVFR and local mountain obscuring IFR in showers and thunderstorms over the Sierra Nevada are possible after 19Z Sun.
