A low pressure system and surface cold front crossed through the Central Appalachians and southwest Virginia on the morning of December 23rd. Warmer temperatures on the onset of showers with the front brought rain into Dickenson and Buchanan Counties, followed by a brief burst of snow. Precipitation ended late that morning and only a few tenths of an inch of snow was measured from local cooperative observers into those two counties.
