SHORT TERM [Today through Wednesday morning]...
Temperatures over the upper plain states remain locked below
zero... -35 degrees this morning in some location in Wisconsin.
The central US is in the 20s and along the gulf coast we are
looking at the 30s... of course Key West is a nice 71 degrees.
The latest front is well to our east moving through the Florida
Panhandle as light rains are beginning to move out of eastern
Louisiana and into southern Mississippi. Clouds have cleared
across southeast Texas and southern Louisiana for the most part as
temperatures have fallen into the 30s with AEX currently at 32
degrees and Jasper at 30 degrees.
Marine... A Gale Warning is in effect through 6 am and then
transitions over to a Small Craft Advisory through 6 pm for the
coastal waters as winds taper off with seas falling in response.
Today the Canadian will settle into south Texas by this afternoon
under clear skies and afternoon temperatures struggling to reach
the mid to upper 50s. Winds will also relax as the pressure
gradient continues to expand. Monday morning looks to be the
coldest start for this coming week with temperatures near
freezing across the northwest gulf region. Thereafter... a slow
but steady warmup will take hold as winds swing around to the
south late tomorrow and the broad high begins to settle off to
the east. Tuesday into Wednesday will see the same pattern
continuing with the high off the mid-Atlantic states. Look for
isolated showers in southeast Texas Wednesday morning spreading
into southern Louisiana during the day. Afternoon temps Wednesday
into the mid to upper 70s.
LONG TERM [Wednesday through Sunday]...
A warm front moves north across the region on Wednesday, followed by
a cold front passage on Thursday. SPC has been highlighting the risk
for strong to severe storms during this time frame, with the threat
increasing as you go further north.
Temperatures will be unseasonably mild on Wednesday and the first
part of Thursday, before going below normal Friday and Saturday.
Another freeze is expected Saturday morning north of the I-10
corridor.
