As water from early spring rains and late winter snowmelt in North Dakota and far northern South Dakota routed downstream, the James River near Forestburg (gage site FORS2) climbed into minor flood stage on May 26, and reached 1.01 feet above flood stage at the end of the month. Significant amounts of agricultural land were inundated. Minor flooding continued at the end of the month.
