This was due to several rounds of thunderstorms, which totaled to as much as two inches above normal for the month across portions of central South Dakota, though rainfall was sometimes spotty.

June began with D2/severe drought conditions across portions of Dewey, Stanley and Jones Counties, and finished with a modest improvement as Jones County transitioned into D1/moderate drought mid-month. This was due to several rounds of thunderstorms, which totaled to as much as two inches above normal for the month across portions of central South Dakota, though rainfall was sometimes spotty. Near to only slightly above normal temperatures were recorded as well. Portions of Dewey County have now been in D2/severe drought for 16 continuous months, which is the longest streak since records began in 2000. Pasture and range conditions continue to suffer in the pocket of remaining D2/severe drought.
