(Today and tonight) Issued at 202 AM CDT Sat Jun 11 2022 Pattern transition continues today as northwest flow is replaced by building heights and upper ridging. Southerly/southwesterly flow increases down low which will help 850 mb temps surge into the 25- 30C range by this afternoon. Expect highs in the low to mid 100s out west with mid to upper 90s elsewhere. With very wet antecedent conditions think models may be underdoing surface moisture today, so dewpoints were raised closer to the upper end of guidance, especially for central and eastern parts of the area. This should lead to heat index values near or over 105 for much of the area. Lower wind speeds and plenty of sun should also lead to fairly high wet bulb globe temps for central and eastern sections as well. A heat advisory is therefore in effect for the entire area. Bottom line, it's gonna feel very hot today so take it easy and drink plenty of water if spending extended periods of time outdoors. With the recent rains significantly increasing surface moisture, the heat advisory will continue through the day Sunday with most areas in the 105 to 110 range. This will likely be the hottest day when the massive heat dome passes west to east over Oklahoma. This strong upper high is expected to continue to drift eastward, but by late week will build again westward. Its westward expansion will increase temperatures slightly again Thursday and Friday. Heat advisories may be needed the end of next week. The only apparent chance for rain comes in the interlude mid-week when a short-wave trough moves through the northern and central plains and provides weak lift across the northern part of Oklahoma.
