.DISCUSSION...
There might've been a few showers around the Malta area around 6
pm that have moved northeast this evening and are disipating.
Otherwise, it'll be partly to mostly cloudy across the area
tonight with a light wind becoming SE. Temperatures for this time
of year are on the mild side, and probably made trick or treating
a bit more enjoyable for most. TFJ

Previous Discussion...
Afternoon Update (2100Z):
This afternoon's update has essentially held all precipitation out
of northeast Montana for the midweek system, indicating that there
is still quite a bit of uncertainty in storm track, which cascades
down to precipitation potential. As of now, even though the most
likely scenario (50% probability) shows no precipitation over the
region, there are indications of a 10-25% chance of seeing between
0.01" and 0.1" of liquid equivalent precipitation, mostly confined
to northern Phillips County and maybe creeping a bit into Valley
County. Beyond this system, a quick dry and warm spell will move
into the region before another cold airmass moves into the region
late in the weekend, which has greater than 50% chance of being
below freezing each night starting Sunday. While very uncertain
and probably unlikely, starting next week there is a non-zero
(<10%) chance of Low Temperatures below 0 each morning. Must be
November.

PREVIOUS DISCUSSION:
Zonal flow today will transition to SW flow aloft tonight and
Tuesday as upper trough moves inland from the Pacific. Warm and
dry weather will continue today and Tuesday with highs in the 60s
in most areas.

A cold front moves through the forecast area late Tuesday Night
and Wednesday. Models and ensembles still have uncertainty about
precipiation timing and typing for this system. Moisture is
generally expected to be behind the front. Probabilistic continue
to show potential for some freezing rain mixing in with rain in
the northwest part of the region Wednesday morning in areas where
surface temperatures are expected to below freezing. Otherwise,
temperatures will be warm enough for mainly rain on Wednesday and
precipitation chances will highest in the west with little or no
chance of rain in the southeast. All areas will have chances for
light snow Wednesday Night as the cold front moves to the east.

The upper trough splits as moves into Montana Wednesday Night and
Thursday taking most of the moisture to the south and putting the
forecast area in the much drier northern branch trough. A surface
high moves into the area on Thursday with a mainly dry and cold
day expected.

The northern branch flow becomes zonal on Friday allowing for a
dry and warmer day. Then, a deep trough moves inland from the
Pacific over the weekend bringing a cold front on Saturday with
chances for rain on Saturday and rain and snow Saturday Night and
Sunday. It will bring much colder temperatures early next week.
