Another period of hazardous heat occurred across western Kentucky. Heat indices peaked around 105 degrees along and north of a line from Madisonville to Paducah on the 22nd. Heat indices peaked around 105 degrees everywhere on the 23rd and 24th. The peak heat index at Paducah was 106 on the 22nd, 104 on the 23rd, and 108 on the 24th. Another large 500 mb high became stubbornly persistent across the southern states, from the Four Corners region to the Southeast. Underneath this high, daily high temperatures were in the mid 90's. Overnight lows were mostly in the mid 70's.
