What happened

The episode as NWS DMX wrote it up.

A pair of MCVs resulted in severe storms in Iowa on the morning of June 13th. The first moved in from Nebraska and interacted with highly unstable airmass with MLCAPE analyzed at over 3000 J/kg in an area of strong warm air advection. This allowed storms to strengthen and produce nickel sized hail in the early morning. At the same time an MCV was moving into Minnesota with trailing convection into northern Iowa. By mid morning this had also collided with the unstable air with several reports of hail between nickel to golf ball sized in northern Iowa.
