A subtle injection of moisture into the low to mid-levels is expected in the next several days, as tropical disturbance Invest 99W drifts a bit north, inducing a weak convergence zone that will produce scattered showers over the region Tuesday through Wednesday. Time heights do not show much support for thunderstorms at the moment, but upper-level streamlines indicate a brief tropical upper- tropospheric trough forming aloft during the same time, which may assist in development of sporadic thunderstorms in the area. && .Marine... Combined seas of 5 to 6 feet will briefly drop by a foot or two in the next several days, before increasing to between 6 and 7 feet by Tuesday due to a combination of primary trade swell and a secondary north swell. There is a moderate risk of rip currents along east facing reefs through at least Tuesday, before rip risk becomes moderate along north facing reefs as well due to the arrival of the distant secondary north swell. && .Tropical Systems... Refer to the western Micronesia discussion below for details about tropical disturbance Invest 99W. && .Eastern Micronesia and Chuuk... Satellite imagery shows that the ITCZ has largely broken down into trade-wind convergence between ENE winds north of 5N and east winds to the south, with a weak trough evident near Kosrae. Convection is at a minimum this evening, and while scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to re-develop overnight, POPs are only 40 percent at all 3 forecast locations. Numerous showers are seen for Pohnpei Sunday, and at Kosrae Sunday night, as a trade disturbance briefly amplifies, but otherwise only scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected through the middle of next week at the three locations as minor trade-wind troughs pass through. Combined seas of 4 to 7 feet and gentle to moderate trade winds will persist for the next few days. && .Western Micronesia for Koror and Yap... A weak disorganized disturbance, Invest 99W, has moved little, and its ill-defined center is still southeast of Yap near 4N142E, with possibly another weak circulation near 4N145E, and a weak near- equatorial trough stretching from 6N130E to 3N137E to the circulation near 4N142E. Convection associated with this pattern is sparse this evening, mainly southwest of Palau. But GFS fires up scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms overnight for Palau tonight and Sunday, decreasing to isolated Sunday night and Monday, then back to scattered Monday night and Tuesday as a better-defined circulation takes shape out west near 130E. Yap remains north of any significant rainfall through Tuesday with only isolated showers, but a trade disturbance from the east could bring an increase in showers for Tuesday night and Wednesday. Out to the east, Chuuk is caught in low-level convergence between the broad-scale circulatory pattern to the west and trade winds coming in from the east, triggering widespread showers and a few thunderstorms tonight, decreasing quickly to scattered Sunday and isolated Sunday night. Minor trade-wind troughs from the east will bring scattered showers back in for Monday through Tuesday night. Combined seas of 4 to 6 feet and gentle to moderate trade winds are expected for the next few days for Yap and Palau.
