...SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS MOVING SOUTH THROUGH SOUTHEAST GEORGIA
THIS AFTERNOON...
.NEAR TERM [Through Tonight]...
Showers and thunderstorms will continue developing this afternoon,
with scattered convection forming along the sea breeze boundaries
and more widespread thunderstorms building in over southeast
Georgia from out of the north and moving towards the south and
southwest. Marginal chances for severe thunderstorms have been
set today along with a Severe Thunderstorm Watch through this
evening for southeast Georgia due to the remnants of the MCS
crossing the Appalachians last night and influencing the
development of strong to severe storms within an already moist and
unstable air mass, with the primary threat from these storms
being strong down bursts producing damaging winds reaching speeds
of 60 mph or greater. Heat Advisory conditions remain in place
through this evening for counties along and north of the I-10
corridor with temperatures rising into the mid to upper 90s and
heat index values ranging between 102 to 111 degrees, with higher
apparent temperatures occurring further to the north. Overnight
low temperatures will drop down into the lower to mid 70s for
inland areas and in the mid to upper 70s along the coast and for
areas adjacent to the St Johns River.
.SHORT TERM [Wednesday Through Thursday Night]...
Prevailing flow will settle into a northeasterly-easterly flow by
Wednesday morning as high pressure affecting flow shifts further
off to the west. Warm and moist conditions will continue through
midweek with increasing PWAT values ranging between 2 and 2.5
inches moving into the region on Wednesday. Potential for strong
to severe storms over inland southeast Georgia are possible on
Wednesday, with a Marginal Risk for severe storms set by the SPC.
Potential for reduced convection on Thursday as drier air from out
of the east brings PWAT levels down to below 1.5 inches for large
portions of the forecast area. Daily high temperatures for this
period will be in the mid to upper 90s for inland areas and in the
lower 90s for areas along the shoreline. Apparent "feels like"
temperatures reaching upwards of 110 degrees and higher for
Wednesday and Thursday, with conditions on Wednesday potentially
reaching levels close to Excessive Heat Warning Criteria.
.LONG TERM [Friday Through Tuesday]...
A backdoor cold front will build in over the forecast area by the
end of the weekend as upper level ridging moves off to the west,
bringing reduced chances for convection over the region as drier
air settles in over southeast Georgia and northeast Florida.
Scattered showers and storms forming ahead of the frontal passage
are anticipated on Saturday. Very high temperatures expected for
the start of the weekend with daily high temps reaching up values
close to daily record highs in the upper 90s and potentially
reaching 100 degrees. Apparent temperatures during this period are
very likely to reach up into Heat Advisory levels. Overnight low
temperatures will be slightly above the seasonal average.

West-southwesterly winds prevail this morning with coastal sites
shifting to south-southeasterly as the sea breeze pushes inland
in the afternoon. There's enough heating today to trigger at least
some VCTS along the sea breeze at the Atlc Coast. Sea breeze
should push inland past SSI/SGJ and have kept VCTS there while all
inland TAF sites of CRG/JAX/GNV/VQQ have TEMPO groups in the
18-23Z time frame. Then, expect just lingering convective debris
clouds and VFR conds from 00-06Z.

.MARINE...
High pressure over the western Atlantic extends into the
southeastern US creating prevailing southwest winds, with active
sea breezes over the near shore waters through midweek. A frontal
boundary will drop south into the southeast states this weekend,
likely pushing through the Georgia waters on Saturday night and
then possibly stalling over the northeast Florida waters by
Sunday. Onshore winds may gradually strengthen late in the
upcoming weekend as high pressure builds over the southeast states
in the wake of this front.
Rip Currents: Low to Moderate Risk for beaches continues through
into Wednesday.
