An upper level low will continue lift northwest and open up into
an elongated trough across the lower Mississippi River Valley on
Saturday. This will maintain rain chances tonight into Saturday. A
dry slot currently evident in water vapor imagery to the west of
the upper low and across the northwest Gulf will wrap into parts
of the area on Saturday as the upper low moves northwest. This
will setup a large PWAT gradient over the region on Saturday with
1.3 to 1.5 inch range over central areas with higher values just
to the east and west. This will make for a challenging POP pattern
on Saturday. Scattered showers and thunderstorms can be expected
across much of the area with likely rain chances across southeast
Mississippi closer to the upper low/trough and over eastern areas
where deeper moisture will reside.
A broad trough will remain west of the area on Sunday with a plume
of mid-level dry air expected to continue across portions of the
area. This pattern will promote diurnally driven showers and
storms on Sunday, with the best rain chance for rain occurring
east of I-65 due to the better moisture content. Heavy
rain/flooding remains the main threat due to the slow movement of
the showers and storms.
Low temperatures tonight should range from the upper 60s over
interior southwest AL and southeast MS zones, to the lower 70s
across most of the remainder of south central AL and the western FL
panhandle, and a few mid 70s along the immediate coast. Highs on
Saturday and Sunday will mainly be in the mid 80s for most
locations. /13
