.UPDATE...
Issued at 856 AM EDT Wed Aug 3 2022

Not too dramatically different from yesterday, today is kicking off
with a few storms out over the Gulf, but mostly quiet conditions
over land. Most are waking up to sunny skies, but there are a few
altocumulus clouds across SWFL. Overall, this doesn't look too
different from yesterday.

These similarities translate to the atmospheric column as well. The
12Z sounding has come in with a PW value of 1.81 inches, suggesting
there is ample moisture present in the column. There are still a
couple drier pockets, but not quite as defined as yesterday. Even
so, the calculated DCAPE came in at over 1000J/KG, suggesting the
potential still remains for water-loading in the column that could
support wet microbursts later today. The atmosphere also remains on
the cooler side with temperatures around -9C. Small hail is possible
again today too. Light low-level flow supports slow thunderstorm
movement as well, and the instability profile suggests heavy rain is
again a possibility. Isolated areas may see ponding in areas of poor
drainage or low-lying areas with slow movement of storms.

Light flow remains across the FL peninsula once again today,
suggesting inland propagation of the sea breeze. Given the light,
regime 1 pattern, coastal areas have the best chance for storms
earlier in the day before the bulk of the activity should transition
inland as the afternoon turns to evening. Some possibility for
backbuilding towards the coast is possible later, as outflow
boundaries propagate outward in various directions. There is also an
argument that the overall convective steering flow could support it
too (winds are out of the E above 700mb). However, the flow is
pretty light; not thinking it will have a big influence. What seems
most likely, is that anvils may spread back westward and some mid-
level light rain may accompany this as cells begin to weaken.
Otherwise, thinking things should stay more dry closer to the coast.

Some adjustments have been made to the forecast this AM, mostly for
POPs and related weather elements. Have also tweaked the wind
forecast slightly to better represent the sea breeze. Otherwise, the
forecast looks good. No additional significant changes are
anticipated before the afternoon.

.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 242 AM EDT Wed Aug 3 2022

Today: With the ridge axis situated more northeast, any potential
steering flow continues to be very light. Thanks to an upper
level trough, plenty of moisture should be available again today
with PWAT values forecasted to range from 1.8-2+ throughout the
day. Much like yesterday, with the light flow storms may not move
in any typical pattern and may move slower once developed. Slower
storms allow for more rainfall over one area. Localized flooding
in low lying areas and streets could be a possibility especially
if storms linger in areas that are already saturated from the
previous days showers.

Rest of the week: Models are showing a pocket of dry air
advecting NE across the state overnight and into Thursday. PWATs
in the dry slot could be as low as 1.2. This could limit
development of storms for Thursday until late afternoon depending
on how quickly the dry air moves through. Moisture rebounds very
quickly and by Thursday night PWATs are back to 1.8-2+. The east
southeast flow strengthens Thursday and will allow for more
typical sea breeze driven convection. Friday's setup will be
similar to Thursday favoring sea breeze forced convection
especially along the west coast late in the afternoon, evening.

The weekend: Another surge in moisture is forecasted this weekend as
another upper level trough moves over the area. This will aid in the
development of scattered to numerous afternoon sea
breeze driven thunderstorms.

.AVIATION...
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 735 AM EDT Wed Aug 3 2022

VFR conditions with light flow continue through the morning
continue. As the seabreeze develops in the early afternoon, winds
should shift onshore, and thunderstorms become more possible. Some
activity is possible earlier closer to the coast, driving the
inclusion of TEMPOs for many locations during the most favorable
time-frame, before likely transitioning inland later in the day,
but still lingering in the vicinity possibly. There is a nonzero
possibility storms may drift back towards the coast later in the
evening, but impacts to terminals are too uncertain for any
additional mention beyond VCTS later in the day.

.MARINE...
Issued at 856 AM EDT Wed Aug 3 2022

A few coastal storms remain possible through the morning before the
bulk of the activity transitions onshore this afternoon with sea
breeze development. Light winds should keep conditions benign
through the day, but winds are likely to increase overnight tonight
as easterly flow settles in and the land breeze develops.
Thunderstorms also become more possible as this occurs. This is
likely to occur each night this week, leading to slightly choppier
conditions across coastal waters overnight. While conditions should
remain 15kts or less, locally hazardous conditions remain possible
in the vicinity of thunderstorms.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Issued at 242 AM EDT Wed Aug 3 2022

No fire weather hazards are expected the next few days as minimum
relative humidity values will remain above critical levels and
winds will remain less than 15 mph outside of any convection.
