Weather conditions today are very similar to yesterday with highs expected to reach triple digits in the Valley once again. A low pressure system to our north has started to move into the Pacific Northwest and shifted the ridge that was over the region to our east. This will support onshore flow with a decent Delta Breeze that will likely continue through the short term forecast period. High temperatures will gradually lessen with highs around average by Thursday and below average on Friday. Heat risk will also be lower with low risk across the region. Winds may be breezy at times, especially in the afternoon and evening. && .EXTENDED DISCUSSION (Saturday THROUGH Tuesday)... A big cooldown is forecast for the holiday weekend with highs expected to be 5 to 15 degrees below average for this time of year. This is thanks to troughing the is forecast to deepen off the West Coast lowering highs over northern California. Cluster analysis has been consistently showing noteworthy confidence in this pattern with highs only maxing out in the 80s for the Valley. This feature is also forecast to linger, leading to cooler than average temperatures into the early part of next week as well. Breezy winds through the Delta and over the Sierra are indicated by the EFI with forecast gusts generally 30 - 40 mph over the weekend. Breezy onshore flow is also anticipated in the Valley. Models have also trending slightly wetter with this system with the potential for a few showers in northern Shasta County on Sunday. However, this will likely not produce much QPF. && .AVIATION... The Rices Fire began on June 28, 2022, near Rices Crossing Road and Cranston Road, south of Dobbins in Nevada County. The fire burned 904 acres and caused evacuations through the area, with 1 structure destroyed. No injuries reported. The fire was not fully contained until 2:22 pm, July 11, 2022.
