Dry weather is expected except for a chance of light showers across the Coast Range, northern Sacramento Valley and northern mountains through Tuesday. && .Discussion... Upper level trough along the coast continues to bring onshore flow with unseasonably cool temperatures for this Independence Day. Partly cloudy skies cover the mountains this afternoon. Radar shows some light showers over the northern Coastal Range. Rainfall amounts have been light, generally a couple hundredths of an inch, with Sims in northwest Shasta having a total of 0.06" so far. The potential for light showers in the area continue through Tuesday, extending into the Redding area by this evening. The onshore surface pressure gradient has weakened quite a bit compared to 24 hours ago. Wind gusts in the Delta are around 20-25 mph this afternoon. The Fort Ord profiler has shown the marine layer has mixed out, so cooling is more limited. As a result temperatures at 2 pm were warmer today than yesterday, about 5-7 degrees higher overall and 9-12 degrees warmer in Delta influenced areas. Ensembles linger the main trough off the PacNW coast the next several days continuing below-average temperatures across interior NorCal into mid-week. Best shower chances will be along the northwestern edges of the forecast area as short-waves brush the region providing weak forcing. Modest warming is expected beginning Wednesday as heights aloft increase slightly, but continuing onshore flow will help to keep temperatures a little below average. && .EXTENDED DISCUSSION (Friday THROUGH Monday)... Strong ridging over the central US will start to build westward this week. This will bring a continued warming trend into the into the weekend. Highs should return to near seasonal averages by Saturday, a little above by Sunday. Onshore flow will continue and will be breezy at times mainly over the Sierra and through the Delta and provide overnight cooling to influenced areas. && .AVIATION... The Electra Fire began on July 4, 2022, near Electra Road and Hwy 49, southeast of Jackson in Amador County. The fire burned 4,478 acres and caused evacuations in the area. One injury was reported. The cause is under investigation.
