.SYNOPSIS...

A strong 979 mb low pressure system will move north over the
Eastern Bering Sea on Mon and deepen as it tracks to the north
into the Chukchi Sea on Tue. This will bring another round of
southerly gales, high surf, minor coastal flooding and heavy
snow to the West Coast from the Yukon Delta to the Bering Strait
Mon into Tue, and the area from the Bering Strait to Point Hope
Mon PM into Tuesday. Snow will spread to the Western Interior
Today into Tuesday. This will also bring strong south winds to
the Alaska Range Mon into Tueday as well. Warmer temperatures
for the Interior through the week.

.DISCUSSION... Aloft...Upper level ridging will shift to the east
today while a strong 512 dam low tracks north into the Bering
strait today and over the Chuckchi sea on Tuesday. Chinook flow
will ramp up over the Interior today and continue into Wednesday
bringing warmer conditions for the Central Interior. Ridging will
continue over the Interior later in the week and the west
coast will remain in a stormy pattern with troughing.

West coast and North slope...A strong storm will move north over
the Eastern Bering Sea on Monday and Monday night. A 985 mb low
will move into the Bering today then move north and deepen to 975
mb near Saint Lawrence Island Monday morning. The low will
continue to track north and deepen to 977 mb and move into the
Chuckchi sea by Tuesday morning. The storm will also bring mixed
precipitation to the Yukon Delta and mostly snow for the inland
areas and the Seward Penn. Strong winds with snow and blowing snow
expected in some areas. Winter storm warnings and advisories have
been issued for much of the west coast. Due to strong winds over
open water, coastal flood advisories and high surf advisories are
in effect as well for the Yukon Delta, and Norton Sound and
Chuckchi sea coast. Wave run up of 4 to 6 feet above the normal
high tide line is expected. Snow and blowing snow will spread
northward Monday afternoon into Tuesday over northwest Alaska as
well.

Interior...Clear and cold over the Interior this morning then
moderating temps Tuesday through Friday. Snow chances increase
for the western Interior Monday afternoon into Monday night.
A frontal boundary from this system will extend into the
Interior, where there's potential to get 2 to 3 inches of snow for
the Central Interior and 1 to 2 inches of snow for the Eastern
Interior Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning. As this front
moves through the Interior, temperatures are expected to increase
from the single digits below today to 20s above on Tuesday. Gusty
winds in the passes today and from Delta Junction south.
As a result, High Wind Warnings have been issued for the Alaska
Range passes and is in effect 6 AM AKST Monday.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.

Extended Forecast Days 4 Through 7...
Models continue to struggle with forecast agreement after Day 4.
The overall agreement is that Alaska will remain under a broad
trough pattern with a series of systems moving through the Bering
Sea. Confidence of any timings or locations is low considering the
differences in model agreement.
