Potent SW LLJ will continue to support windy conds across NE WY
and portions of the Black Hills. Given progged 750-775mb flow of
50+ knots persisting through Tues afternoon, have decided to issue
a high wind warning for southern Campbell County as well.

.DISCUSSION...(This Evening Through Monday)

Current upper air models show the long wave trough situated over
the west coast, with mild ridging over the northern plains and
southwest flow aloft. At the surface, light southwest winds are
expected to pick up this evening as a tightening mid-level
gradient enhances the flow. These increased winds will cause gusty
downslope winds for the central and northern black hills regions,
with gusts up to 60mph possible for late tonight through Tuesday
morning.
Our next potential winter system enters the region Wednesday.
Models show a shortwave ejecting out of the southwest CONUS up
through the upper midwest by Wednesday morning. Given the thermal
profile, expect leading precipitation as rain, then a transition
to mixed and eventually snow. While precipitation looks to be
widespread, lack of moisture and speed of the wave should only see
light accumulations of less than an inch for most of our forecast
area. Some localized regions could see slightly more. The larger
concern may be potential for wind headlines behind frontal
passage. High pressure rises behind the front will once again
bring gusty winds into the region. Still some uncertainty on the
exact track of the low, so will have to monitor as the week
progresses to determine if a headline will be needed.
Models begin to diverge looking ahead towards the weekend, with
some showing upper ridging moving into the upper midwest, and
others showing another potential shortwave moving through the
region, another thing to monitor through the week.

VFR conditions will continue through the TAF forecast period.
Gusty southwest winds will continue over northeast Wyoming through
the period. The gusty winds will spread into the Black Hills
tonight where some gusts around 45kts are possible, especially in
the downslope areas of the northern/eastern foothills. LLWS will
also develop on the adjacent plains of the Black Hills, including
the KRAP terminal.
