.SYNOPSIS...A mix of rain and snow is expected over much of
northern and central NV today. Best chances for snow will be at
elevations above 6000 feet. Slush or snow accumulation is possible
on high elevation summits including sections of I80 and Highway
50. Showers taper off in most locations by late this evening,
with cool and dry conditions on Tuesday.

&&

.SHORT TERM...Today through Tuesday. Trough energy approaching
from the west coast continues to deepen early this morning,
forming a closed low over northern and central CA/NV. Southerly
winds will remain gusty over much of east-central NV through
around noon today ahead of the approaching front. Precipitation is
spreading into western portions of the CWA at this time, which
will continue to expand east and south through the day. Latest
trend in guidance has the low dipping slightly further south.
This in turn has reduced the amount of QPF over the mountains of
northern Elko County for today, while at the same time increased
the amount of moisture for Lander and Eureka Counties. This shift
south in the Low means summits along Highway 50 may now also see
some slush or light snow accumulations today. Showers taper off in
most areas by late this evening, though some lighter showers may
linger over and east of the Ruby Mountains, as well as some higher
peaks in White Pine County.

Clouds are expected to linger through the evening hours, with
scattering overnight. Depending on how early skies clear out
tonight, and where precipitation falls today, there may be some
freezing fog setting up Tuesday morning. There may also be some
icy roads early Tuesday as morning lows drop into the 20s.
Otherwise, mostly sunny on Tuesday across the CWA with high
temperatures warming by 5-10 degrees, with most valley areas
climbing back into the 50s.

.LONG TERM...Tuesday night through next Sunday.

Ridging and high pressure continues to be nestled over
southeastern Nevada bringing dry conditions for the overnight and
into mid-week. Meanwhile in northwestern Nevada, activity is
expected to differ as model agreement sees a trough off the
California coast brush the area Wednesday. Isolated showers are
possible across Humboldt county, but guidance prefers to keep
amounts light. By Wednesday afternoon, models sees flow shift to
more zonal westerly direction as high pressure and ridging build
in strength Thursday. Conditions should remain dry for the region
into Thursday, but are not expected to last. As early as that
night, model agreement sees another trough make it passage over
northern Nevada from the California coast. Much like Wednesday,
showers will once again be possible over Northern Nevada Friday
with latest guidance seeing showers spread south into Lander and
Eureka counties. Winds also look to pick up around the region that
afternoon as winds shift to more southerly ahead of the system.
Agreement between models becomes more muddy as we approach the
weekend, but the general consensus continues to point to more
widespread activity for the weekend.

Temperatures will continue their warming trend for the week as
models see afternoon temperatures rise back into the mid 60s by
Friday. Overnight temperatures will also warm slightly as
temperatures settle back into the 30s near the end of the week.

.AVIATION...VFR conditions will last at all terminals until the
early morning hours when a cold front passes through the region.
Winds will be southerly and gusty ahead of the front today
especially at KELY where gusts are capable of being in the 30s kt
range. The passage of the the front will see these winds calm, but
still bring about breezy west to northwesterly gust over the
remainder of the day at all the sites. Behind the frontal system
rain and snow shower are possible at all terminals. Guidance
continues to see KWMC, KBAM, and KEKO have a mix of rain/snow
while KELY should see mainly snow. KTPH looks to be the least
impacted with most of the precipitation expected to the north of
the site. This system will cause low ceilings of MVFR to IFR to
these terminals with the exception of KTPH. Visibility should
remain closer to VFR as the showers are look to be light. However,
the potential exists for heavier showers in the morning that could
briefly take the visibility down to IFR as well. The low clouds
and precipitation will cause mountain obstruction throughout NV.
Icing and turbulence are also possible with this system so check
the Aviation Weather Center for more in depth forecasts for those
two.

&&

.FIRE WEATHER...A mix of rain and snow will spread over much of
northern and central NV today which will produce some moderate QPF
amounts in some zones. Showers taper off by this evening. There
will also be gusty southerly winds over east-central NV through
around noon today, with highest gusts of 30 to 40 mph over zone
425. Cool and dry conditions along with lighter winds are expected
in all zones on Tuesday as brief high pressure builds in over
Nevada.
