Area Forecast Discussion...Updated National Weather Service Hanford CA 455 PM PDT Mon May 31 2021 Updated Air Quality Issues section .SYNOPSIS... Dangerously hot temperatures will impact much of interior central California today through Wednesday. Temperatures will be as much as 15-20 degrees above normal with some locations in the San Joaquin Valley reaching or exceeding record highs. Temperatures will cool off for the latter part of the week into early next week but will still be around 8 to 14 degrees above normal for early June. && .DISCUSSION... Upper level ridge of high pressure will force sinking air across the region with clear skies and unseasonably hot temepratures. Temperatures are expected to climb into the 103 to 107 range today and tomorrow. Excessive heat warnings have been posted for the SJV and we could see dangerous temperatures across the valley today and tomorrow. When outside, please wear light colored clothing and stay hydrated today for the Memorial Holiday activities. The upper ridge will slowly begin to break down and move east as a EPAC trough will approach from the NW US on Thursday. Cool onshore flow will impact the Merced county area on Wednesday as cool pacific ocean air will push through the Pacheco and Sunflower Passes. The marine air will push even farther south on Thursday and into the weekend with a lot of the SJV dropping below triple digits by Saturday. With the trough pushing through, we will see an increased chance of isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms mainly north of Sequoia Kings Canyon National Park. A significant area of low pressure is forecast to drop south out of Western Canada and into California by next Monday. It is forecast to bring significantly cooler temperatures across interior central California and isolated showers in the Central Sierra. && .AVIATION...
