.SYNOPSIS...16/306 AM.

Fair skies and breezy conditiosn will persist for the week.
Temperatures will remain near normal through the period.

&&

.SHORT TERM (TDY-THU)...16/240 AM.

A weak trof embedded in the NW flow has just passed overhead
and has reinvigorated the NW to N flow. The strong upper level
flow and subsidence associated with the cold air advection behind
the trof will combine with a northerly offshore push of 4 MB to
bring 60 mph warning level gusts to the LA/VTA mtns (strongest
through the I-5 corridor) and 45 mph advisory level gusts to the
Antelope Vly and the vlys either side of the LA/VTA county line.
Please the product LAXNPWLOX for all of the details about the
winds. There is a 5 MB onshore push to the east and this along
with the lift in front of the trof created a stratus field last
evening. The cold air advection along with the mixing assoc with
the trof has wiped out a large portion of it, leaving only patch
low clouds and fog across the csts/vlys. There does not look like
there will be quite the amount of cold air advection as was
indicated last night. This will allow the offshore flow to bring 1
to 3 degrees of warming to the csts and vlys. The interior will
still cool off by 4 to 8 degrees.

The north push will continue tonight and most of the advisories
will continue late into the evening. The SBA south coast will also
likely see advisory level gusts this evening.

On Wednesday the E/W flow switches to offshore while the offshore
flow from the north continues. This will switch the winds to more
of a NE direction and a typical Santa Ana wind event will develop.
Right now there does not look like there is enough upper or
thermal support to create advisory level gusts. Skies will be
sunny and there will be 1 to 3 degrees of warming for most of the
area.

An east Pac ridge will move eastward and over the state on
Thursday. There will be about 4 MB of offshore flow from both the
N and the E in the morning which will lead to some gusty NE canyon
winds in the morning. The lack of upper level or thermal support
will preclude the development of any advisory level gusts. The
ridge and offshore flow will combine with plenty of sunshine to
bring 3 to 6 degrees of warming to most over the area except for
the Kern County border area from the Grapevine to the interior of
SLO county where 8 to 10 degrees of warming is forecast. The
coasts and vlys will see max temps a few degrees either side of
70, which is 4 to 6 degrees above normal.

.LONG TERM (FRI-MON)...16/303 AM.

Both the EC and the GFS agree that the state will be under dry
westerly flow on Friday in between the departing ridge and an
approaching trof. The sfc flow will still be offshore but it will
be much weaker than on Thursday. This will allow for an earlier
and stronger sea breeze which will cool the coasts and lower vlys
by about 3 degrees. The interior will warm esp the Antelope Vly
which will see around 8 degrees of warming.

A pos tilt trof will dive trough the state some time Friday night
(EC) or Saturday morning (GFS) It will bring some clouds and some
gusty NW to N afternoon winds. Falling hgts and a newly developed
onshore push to the East will lower max temps 2 to 4 degrees
csts/vlys and 8 to 12 degrees across the interior. This cooling
will bring most max temps across the area (the LA coast and lower
vlys being a notable exception) to below normal.

The Saturday night through Monday forecast will be dominated by
offshore winds. Sunday will be the windiest day with advisory
level gusts likely. 3 to 6 degrees of warming each day, due to
rising hgts and offshore flow, will bring max temps on Monday into
the 70s and lower 80s across the coasts and vlys.

.AVIATION...16/1303Z.

At 0956Z at KLAX, the marine layer was 2100 feet deep. The top of
the inversion was at 3000 ft with a temp of 11 degrees C.

For KPRB, KLAX, KLGB, KSMO, moderate confidence that low clouds
will clear by 16Z. Otherwise high confidence in VFR conditions
for remaining sites through the period. Moderate confidence in
wind.

KLAX...Moderate confidence in TAF through 16Z. Any east wind
component will be 5 kt or less. There is a 30% chance of a
northerly cross wind of 15 kt.

KBUR...Moderate confidence in TAF. There is a 30% chance of a
18kt north wind.

.MARINE...16/217 AM.

Moderate to high confidence in the current forecast. Higher
confidence today, then less confidence through the rest of the
week.

For the waters from the Central Coast to San Nicolas Island, at
least Small Craft Advisory (SCA) level conditions due to a mix of
winds and seas will continue through Wednesday. Gale force winds
have developed over the portion of these waters from Point
Conception and southward and confidence is high that Gales will
continue through late tonight. Buoy observations indicate that
winds have strengthened to near or above Gale force across the
waters adjacent to the Central Coast at least 10 nm off the
coast. Therefore have accelerated the timing of the Gale Warning
to be in effect now rather than later this morning. There is a
chance that Gales may diminish a few hours earlier than forecast.
Winds across these waters will diminish to SCA level on Wednesday
before weakening further on Thursday.

For the waters inside the Southern California Bight, SCA level
winds will likely continue through late tonight, possibly into
Wednesday morning. The strongest winds will likely remain over the
western portions, but gusts to 30 kt are possible through the San
Pedro Channel. There is a 50% chance of Gales across the Santa
Barbara Channel, mainly for the western portion. Will mention in
the forecast local gusts to 35 kt for the Santa Barbara Channel.
