.SYNOPSIS...08/244 AM.
There will be gusty north to northeast winds today with a
significant warming trend. Well above normal temperatures will
continue through Thursday before a significant cooling trends
arrives for the weekend with increasing low clouds and fog for
coastal areas and possibly a few coastal valleys.

.SHORT TERM (TDY-WED)...08/236 AM.
An unseasonably cool upper level trough will be moving into the
Great Basin today. As it does, a 1023 MB High will set up across
northern Nevada and Utah causing a rare offshore surface gradient
to set up later this morning. The northerly gradient will then
shift to the northeast to a more traditional Santa Ana wind
direction. So far, the strongest winds gusts were occuring now across
the L.A. County Mountains with gusts to 60 mph at Whitaker Peak as
expected, while several other mountain sites were reaching the
50s. Winds were filtering into the Santa Clarita and San Fernando
Valleys where gusts between 40 and 50 were occurring including the
Porter Ranch area. Montecito was seeing a bump up of winds this
morning as the SBA- BFL gradient continues to strengthen and
would not be surprised if there was a late surge with gusts
reaching around 60 mph over the next few hours. There is some
decent upper level support this morning to boot, which should help
enhance the winds this morning. When the winds shift to the
northeast, winds will become more widespread across the Ventura
County Valleys and into the Ventura Coastal plain. Winds should
remain below advisory levels for the Ventura Coast today.
The combination of a weak upper ridge developing behind the
exiting trough and offshore surface gradients, expect High temps
to rise significantly 6-12 degrees in most areas with the L.A.
and Ventura County Valleys and inland coastal areas reaching the
upper 80s to lower 90s. Meanwhile, with the offshore flow, the
Antelope Valley will only reach the upper 70s to around 80 today.
This offshore pattern will continue through at least Wednesday
with a persistent flat ridge to zonal flow over the region.
Although H5 heights will range between 584-586 DM, the weak
offshore flow will cause high temps to trend up an additional 4-8
degrees on Tuesday with high temps reaching the mid to upper 90s
across the coastal valleys, while inland coastal areas will be in
the 90s, especially across the L.A. Basin. Otherwise most coastal
areas will be in the upper 80s to lower 90s. The Central Coast
will be in the mid to upper 80s, with a few locations possibly
reaching 90 including San Luis Obispo. A Heat Advisory has been
issued for the L.A. and Ventura County Coast for Tuesday as high
temps will be over 20 degrees warmer than normal.
For Wednesday, coastal areas will see a few degrees of cooling as
the seabreeze should kick in a little earlier, while inland
locations will remain hot with interior locations seeing a few
degrees of additional warming. Low clouds which should be a normal
thing this time of year, will remain well off the coast through
the short temp period.
.LONG TERM (THU-SUN)...08/242 AM.
A 4-8 degree cooling trend will start on Thursday for most areas
except for the Antelope Valley, with more significant cooling
Friday and Saturday as a trough moves over the region.
Overall, skies should generally remain mostly clear although some
night through morning low clouds are likely to develop across
coastal areas and possibly a few valley locations such as the
Santa Ynez Valley and San Gabriel Valley. Highs should be back
down to normal levels Friday or Saturday.

At 23z at KLAX... The inversion was surface based. The top of the
inversion was around 2600 feet with a temperature of about 16
degrees Celsius.
Overall... Moderate to high confidence in the current TAFs. Some
LLWS and moderate UDDF will occur periodically across the region
through tomorrow morning as strong and gusty winds begin
predominately northwesterly and transition to northeasterly. BLDU
will also occur at times in the Antelope Valley this evening.
Otherwise VFR conditions will prevail.
KLAX... High confidence in the current TAF. Some LLWS may occur
through 03z due to strong and gusty winds transitioning from
westerly to northeasterly across the region. Otherwise VFR
conditions will prevail. There will not be any east winds greater
than 8 kts.
KBUR... High confidence in the current TAF. Some LLWS may occur
through 03z due to strong and gusty winds transitioning from
westerly to northeasterly across the region. Otherwise VFR

Across the outer waters... Winds will be gale force through late
Monday night then diminish to Small Craft Advisory (SCA) level
through at least Friday. Winds will be weaker during the morning
hours.
Across the nearshore waters of the Central Coast... Winds will be
at least SCA level through Friday with a sixty percent chance of
gale force winds this evening through late tonight. Winds may
diminish to below SCA level at times during the morning hours.
Across the inner waters south of Point Conception... Winds will
be SCA level through Monday morning though with a sixty percent
chance of gale force winds across the Santa Barbara Channel this
evening through late tonight. Winds will diminish to below SCA
level across the entire area through at least Thursday.
Dangerous rough and choppy seas will occur across the entire
coastal waters through at least Tuesday.

.FIRE WEATHER...07/923 PM.
Red Flag Warnings in effect for the Santa Barbara south coast and
mountains through early Monday morning. Red Flag Warnings in
effect for portions of LA/Ventura counties through Monday
afternoon. Northerly winds will be the focus tonight, gusting
between 50 and 60 mph across the Santa Ynez Range/SBA south coast,
and I-5 corridor. Northerly winds gusting between 35 and 50 mph
occurring tonight across other typical wind prone areas such as
the Santa Clarita Valley, San Fernando Valley, Ventura
Valleys,Santa Monica mountains, and LA county coast from Malibu
to Hollywood Hills. On Monday morning, the winds will shift to the
northeast with the focus across typical Santa Ana wind prone areas
of LA/Ventura counties, gusting between 50 and 60 mph across the
mountains, and between 35 and 50 mph across coastal/valley areas.
The northerly winds have lowered humidities into the teens and
20's this evening across portions of Ventura and LA counties, as
low as 10 percent at Saugus at 6 pm. Humidities this evening are
somewhat higher across SBA county, but stronger subsidence is
expected to transport some drier air aloft into the mountains
and foothills overnight into early Monday morning. As the winds
shift to the northeast on Monday, expecting widespread humidities
to lower between 5 and 15 percent, with the driest air focused
across Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. The combination of gusty
north to northeast winds, low humidities, warm temperatures, and
drying fuels has resulted in the issuance of the Red Flag Warning.
By Monday night and Tuesday, the offshore winds are expected to
diminish somewhat but could still see some gusts in the 25 to 35
mph range. This coupled with even hotter temperatures and
continued very low humidities between 5 and 12 percent, there
will still be elevated to brief critical fire weather conditions
through Tuesday. Also of note will be the very poor humidity
recoveries expected Monday night in the mountains and foothills.
The offshore winds will continue to diminish on Wednesday
morning, with a better onshore push in the afternoon. Hot and dry
conditions will continue to bring elevated fire weather conditions
on Wednesday.
