A closed upper low from the north brought gusty Santa Ana winds, rain, thunderstorms, and mountain snowfall to Southern California from February 19th through 23rd. Weak Santa Ana winds occurred February 19th through 20th. Rainfall amounts ranged from 0.25 to 1.00 across the region. The coastal slopes locally saw over 1 inch of rainfall. Elevated convection formed along the coast on the evening of the 21st, with lightning observed in Huntington Beach and Encinitas. Another secondary area of heavier showers and thunderstorms impacted Orange and San Diego counties on February 22nd. Pea-sized hail occurred in San Diego and Orange counties. Snow occurred in the mountains, mainly on the evening of the 22nd, where up to 5 inches of snow fell.
