A few isolated thunderstorms developed across north central Nebraska in the afternoon. Then thunderstorms spread in from western Nebraska in the evening. Additional thunderstorms developed late evening across north central Nebraska again.

A forecast update is in place for isolated/scattered showers and
thunderstorms this morning. The satellite shows an upper level
disturbance moving through western Nebraska.

.SHORT TERM...(Today through Thursday)
Issued at 327 AM CDT Wed Aug 7 2019

Scattered showers and thunderstorms currently extend across the
panhandle into the western Sandhills. This is forecast to move
east southeast and should exit eastern areas by 15Z. A few of the
storms could still contain brief heavy rain and gusty winds. Dry
conditions expected 15Z-21Z as skies become partly to mostly sunny
by 18z. Highs today from 86-91 with a light east/southeast wind.
By late afternoon, isolated showers or thunderstorms are
possible. POPs will increase to 30-35 percent this evening and
into the early morning hours, then back to a slight chance late. A
disturbance will exit southeast Wyoming late this afternoon and
track east southeast across the area tonight. The GFS is faster
than the NAM and used a blend of the two including timing. There
is the potential for locally heavy rainfall, with WPC having a
marginal risk for excessive rainfall mainly south of I80.

By 00Z Thursday, a cold front will move through central
and southeast South Dakota and into western Nebraska tonight. This
front will push through Thursday morning as clouds remain partly
to mostly cloudy through the day. Highs cooler from 79 to 83.
There will be a slight chance for a few showers or storms
Thursday. Thunderstorms will develop across the higher terrain to
our west where upslope flow and higher instability exists.
Scattered showers and storms will move eastward, but encounter a
more stable atmosphere.

.LONG TERM...(Thursday night through Tuesday)

Showers and thunderstorms are possible Thursday night as the upper
ridge axis migrates onto the Plains Region. Evening POPs as high
as 50 percent eastern Panhandle, to 30 percent central and east.

Daily chances for thunderstorms Friday through Tuesday as the
upper ridge extending into the Rockies flattens out and extends
across the Southern Plains and sern U.S by late this weekend. The
best chances look to be Saturday night. Highs cool from 80 to the
low 80s Friday then mid 80s this weekend, then back into the upper
70s to lower 80s by Monday and Tuesday.

.AVIATION...(For the 12Z TAFS through 12Z Thursday morning)

Local MVFR ceilings have developed early this morning across
portions of western and north central Nebraska. This formed on the
western side of a strong/severe thunderstorm complex that moved
southward across central Nebraska earlier this morning. These low
ceilings will dissipate this morning with VFR becoming the
rule. Sct tstms early this morning will end late this morning.
Isolated tstms will redevelop across far western Nebraska and the
Panhandle late this afternoon. Winds today will be light.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of western and
north central Nebraska.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will affect parts of the
Sandhills and southwest Nebraska through this afternoon. The
threat of severe weather with this activity is low. However,
storm chances increase late this afternoon in the panhandle and
across the Sandhills this evening. Some of the thunderstorms
tonight could be severe with large hail and strong winds.
Torrential rainfall may also lead to localized flooding.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY.

Thunderstorm chances exist each day through next Tuesday. A
marginal risk of severe weather is in place for Thursday evening in
the panhandle and for Friday evening across all of western and
central Nebraska. Hail, strong winds, and heavy rainfall are the
primary threats. Refer to later forecasts regarding severe
potential for Saturday and beyond.

Spotter activation may be needed this evening. Reports of
rainfall as well as any hail, wind, and flooding would be
appreciated.
