Moderate flooding continued along the Ouachita River at Monroe during the first week of June, as a result of widespread rainfall amounts of 35-40+ inches that had fallen across much of the Ouachita River basin of Central and Southern Arkansas, and extreme Northern Louisiana since February 2019. The Ouachita River remained above the 43 foot moderate flood stage at Monroe through midday on June 6th, after cresting at 45.9 feet (in major flood) back during the early morning hours on May 23rd. As a result, the Moon Lake recreational area remained flooded and closed until the water receded, with backwater flooding affecting smaller bayous that drain into the river along with flooding between levee systems.
