The upper trough will move east tonight followed by an upper ridge on Tuesday for dry weather and warmer temperatures. && .AVIATION...VFR. Isolated showers this evening. Otherwise mostly clear. Surface winds variable less than 10 kts. Winds aloft at 10k feet MSL west 15-25 kts. && .PREV DISCUSSION... SHORT TERM...Tonight through Thursday...Upper level trough continues to move across the Pacific NW today, with the axis across moving eastern OR at this time. Isolated showers and thunderstorms have developed ahead of the trough axis. Strong thunderstorms are possible south of Mountain Home to Twin Falls with gusty winds and hail. The backside of the trough will move across the Owyhees and Treasure Valley this evening with isolated thunderstorms near this feature. Drier air will move into the region on Tuesday with warmer temperatures. By Wednesday a ridge axis moves over the area with temperatures rising to around 5 degrees above normal as the flow shifts to the southwest. Thursday will warm and dry. LONG TERM...Thursday night through Monday...Hot Friday through Sunday under southwest flow aloft around an expansive area of high pressure aloft extending across the southern plains, southern Rockies, and desert southwest. The core of the high is forecast to shift slowly westward to the four corners area, where it often brings our hottest weather. In this case, though, temps will not be excessively high with max temps in the 80s in the mountains and 90s in the valleys. Low-elevation sites like Grandview and Hagerman could touch 100 degrees Friday through Sunday. A weak north Pacific trough will being several degrees cooling Monday and Tuesday. PoPs will be low through the period, with best chance of showers and thunderstorms in the Idaho mountains, but even there only a slight chance.
