A wind-swept fire began upslope from Maalaea in Maui, in the West Maui Mountains, that eventually consumed around 4600 acres of dry brush. The flames forced the evacuation of more than 450 residents along Maalaea Bay Road as the blaze moved close to homes in the area.
Deaths and injuries are direct and indirect together, as the offices filed them. Damage is property and crops in the dollars of the year, not adjusted for inflation, and only where an office estimated it.

The fire also forced the closure of streets and highways in parts of West and central Maui. However, in the end, there were no significant injuries or structural damages. The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
