A slow warming trend took place across the area between October 12 and October 16 with high pressure in place along the west coast. The high broke down on October 17 as a dry cold front pushed through the area. As the colder air pushed into the area during the afternoon and evening of October 17, strong winds impacted the mountains and deserts of Kern County with several stations reporting gusts exceeding 55 mph with a few stations topping out around 70 mph. The winds diminished during the morning of October 18 as the frontal system moved out of the area.
