A major winter storm caused by a rapidly deepening bomb cyclone brought heavy snow and high winds to the area, creating blizzard-like conditions at times. The cyclone moved onshore near the Oregon/California border with central pressure near 971 mb and then moved east-northeast through the area. Numerous accidents and road closures, including Interstate 5, were reported. Around 8000 customers lost power due to downed power lines. The surface pressure recorded in Medford was the second lowest ever recorded at that station.

The observer at the Mount Shasta Ranger Station 1S Mount Shasta City reported 13.0 inches of snow in 24 hours ending at 27/1800 PST. A cooperative observer 1N Mount Shasta City reported a storm total of 15.0 inches of snow at 27/1400 PST. A spotter 3NW Mount Shasta City reported a storm total of 18.0 inches of snow at 27/1333 PST. A spotter 3SSE Mount Shasta City reported 12.0 inches of snow at 26/2130 PST. A spotter 3NW Mount Shasta City reported 16.0 inches of snow in 12 hours ending at 26/2030 PST. Interstate 5 was closed from Siskiyou Summit to Mount Shasta City due to snow and wind combining to make blizzard conditions. Interstate 5 was also closed from Dunsmuir to Mount Shasta City due to heavy snow.

A cooperative observer near Yreka reported 8.3 inches of snow as of 27/1000 PST. |A CoCoRahs observer 0.9WNW Yreka reported 8.2 inches of snow in 24 hours ending at 27/0800 PST. Interstate 5 was closed from Siskiyou Summit to Mount Shasta City due to snow and wind combining to make blizzard conditions. The Weed Airport RAWS reported a gust to 63 mph at 26/1448 PST and a gust to 62 mph at 26/2348 PST. The PacificCorp sensor in North Weed recorded numerous gusts exceeding 57 mph between 26/1311 PST and 26/2010 PST. The peak gust was 70 mph recorded at 26/1420 PST. The ASOS at Montague Airport recorded numerous gusts exceeding 57 mph between 26/1757 PST and 26/2021 PST. The peak gust was 67 mph, recorded at 26/1922 PST.
