Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Sacramento CA 140 PM PDT Sat Apr 20 2019 .SYNOPSIS... Showers and thunderstorms are forecast into the evening as a low pressure system moves inland. Temperatures will become significantly warmer next week with a warming trend starting Sunday and lasting through the middle of next week. && .DISCUSSION... Showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to increase this afternoon particularly between 3 and 6 pm. The low pressure area over the region will move east tonight into Nevada. Thunderstorms should end early in the evening as models indicate stability increasing rapidly this evening. That said some showers may linger overnight in the mountains and foothills as moisture wraps around the back side of the low. The low will be centered over central Nevada on Sunday and a few showers may pop up in the afternoon south of highway 88 along the crest. Northerly flow over the interior on Sunday will help to warm temperatures well into the 70s for the valley with some lower 80s for some of the warmer spots, while the mountains will warm into the 50s and 60s. Breezy northerly winds the next couple of days in the valley as high pressure builds and temperatures warm each day. By Tuesday expect to see temperatures around 15 degrees above seasonal normals. && .EXTENDED DISCUSSION (Wednesday THROUGH Saturday) Upper ridge axis begins to shift east Wednesday, allowing for a few weak disturbances to bring small precipitation chances mainly confined to the northern portion of the state Thursday night through Friday night. Have kept thunderstorm chances in this area for Thursday evening, and again Friday afternoon as models allude to there being enough instability in the area. High temperatures near the 90s Wednesday will decrease to the low 80s by the beginning of the weekend. && .AVIATION... Pacific frontal system will track across Norcal today bringing showers and isolated thunderstorms north and east of Sacramento. Mainly VFR conditions at sites.
