On the night of April 2nd, desperate measures had to be taken by law enforcement and staff of the Mobridge Regional Hospital. A patient needed O-negative blood, but the hospital had very little on hand. Due to wind, low visibility and an icy runway, no planes were able to land at the Mobridge Regional Airport. Law enforcement and hospital staff risked poor travel conditions and drove to surrounding communities to obtain 10 units of blood. Once conditions improved on April 3rd, a plane was able to land at the Mobridge Regional Airport and the patient was flown to Bismarck's CHI St. Alexius Health. The patient was able to make a full recovery.
