Snowfall rates were 1 to 2 inches per hour at times in the morning across eastern Long Island. A deep upper level trough over the northeast also aided in bringing lighter snow over the Lower Hudson Valley and portions of New York City, despite the low pressure tracking several hundred miles off the coast.
