As this surface low continues into eastern Kansas and the strong boundary layer cold advection surge from the Northern High Plains impacts southwest Kansas between 9 and 13 UTC, another increase in surface winds and gusts is expected based on model trends, that were generally underestimating wind speeds in the first place. With this in mind, the High Wind Warning will remain in place through mid morning and perhaps be extended in time across our southeast counties as the subsident area of upper vort dives into northwest Oklahoma. Precipitation and snow total amounts will be a challenge as the HRRR has trended further southwest with considerably higher snowfall amounts with each successive run this morning. A plunge from temperatures near 40 degrees now to the upper 20s as far south as the Ark valley by around 8 am is expected. We are anticipating minor adjustments to the BZ and Advisory headlines this morning to adjust to these most recent hourly model updates - well supported by the current radar trends. Any light snow in the eastern counties should be ending by around noon, and the surface pressure gradient will relax enough for winds to remains around 25 mph and moderately gusty the rest of the day. Temperatures should be relegated to the 30s for most of the area during the afternoon. .LONG TERM...(Monday through Saturday) Issued at 416 AM CST Sun Nov 25 2018 An upper ridge builds in across the central Plains through the next several days, providing dry weather and a warming trend back into the 50s for mid to late week. Models suggest another amplified trough approaching the region for Friday and another chance for rain or snow by the weekend. && .AVIATION...(For the 06Z TAFS through 06Z Sunday night) Issued at 1205 AM CST Sun Nov 25 2018 High wind and snow episode underway across the area with a strong surface low intensifying at this time over south central Kansas Strong isallobaric pressure rises resulting in sustained north winds near EHA and LBL of around 30 knots and gusts commonly from 40 to 45 knots. NAM/WRF and HRRR models both bring a fast moving band of snow form northwest Kansas into central Kansas beginning around 9Z and moving though the area (most intense banding) by around 12 z.
