Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Pocatello ID 113 PM MDT Tue Jul 24 2018 .DISCUSSION...Seeing isolated to scattered thunderstorms developing across the Snake Plain, Magic Valley and south Idaho highlands this afternoon. Monsoonal moisture has worked into the region as the southwestern U.S. ridge has strengthened. Could see a few wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph in some storms as we head into the evening. Temperatures today are a few degrees warmer as well. The Pocatello Airport has already reached 90 degrees this afternoon, for the 21st consecutive day. If the Pocatello Airport hits 90 tomorrow, that will tie the record for 22 days in a row. We should see a second round of storms on Wednesday as a weak front (more of a wind shift really) moves through the region. Looks like the better threat for isolated to scattered thunderstorms will be across the Magic Valley, Snake Plain, along with the south and east Idaho highlands. Flow turns northwesterly for the remainder of the forecast as the southwestern U.S. ridge continues to strengthen along the coast. This will bring drier air into the region, although an isolated storm during this time is possible. With that said, probability and confidence is a storm developing in any given location is low so not mentioning storms at this time. Otherwise, looks continued warm/hot depending upon one's perspective. We stand an excellent chance of breaking the record for consecutive days above 90 degrees at the Pocatello Airport. Valle && .AVIATION...Have vicinity thunderstorms at all sites except SUN this afternoon and evening. Most likely occurrence is at BYI. Outflow winds of 30 to 40 knots possible near thunderstorms. Will remain VFR. Wednesday will be similar with isolated thunderstorms and again could be near any TAF site. GK && .FIRE WEATHER...Red flag warning is in effect until 11 PM in zone 427 for scattered thunderstorms. Isolated thunderstorms will occur in all other zones except zone 475. Expect highest coverage outside zone 427 in zones 476, 410, 411 and 413. Thunderstorm outflow winds may reach 40 mph. Expect isolated thunderstorms again Wednesday with main coverage expected again in zones 427, 476, 410 and 411.
