Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Peachtree City GA 231 PM EDT Sun Jun 10 2018 .SHORT TERM /Tonight through Monday Night/... Diurnal convection will be the rule for this afternoon and Monday. Weak trough is situated across the northern portion of the forecast area this afternoon. The convergence line was fairly well depicted in the satellite vis a few hours ago. Do expect convection to continue firing this afternoon, feeding off the instability and outflows helping to propagate storms. Locally heavy rainfall, lightning and gusty winds will be the main weather hazards through the evening. However, this time of year, an isolated severe thunderstorm is not out of the question. Have seen some high reflectivity cores already, so some small hail is possible but damaging wind gusts would be the primary severe thunderstorm hazard. Tomorrow will be much like today. Have noticed some steeper mid level lapse rates across the CWFA, mainly north of I-20. So, storm coverage should be a little more widespread and the potential for a severe thunderstorm will be slightly higher. NListemaa .LONG TERM /Tuesday through Sunday/... Overall, extended forecast looks to be on track, and have only made minor tweaks to the beginning and very end of the period. Diurnally driven convection will continue each day, and the GFS continues to advertise a Day 7 tropical low (which seems to be the norm these days for the GFS) moving into Texas from the Gulf - which the ECMWF has yet to indicate. Time will tell how this plays out, but for now at least the GFS has had good run-to-run consistency with this feature. Expecting daily diurnally driven scattered convection with some possible weak impulses in the north providing a bit extra forcing for more organized or widespread development. The GFS continues also to have a tropical low pushing north into some part of the western/central Gulf by next weekend so have plenty of time to watch for any trends in future solutions. The Troup County 911 center reported a tree blown down on Abbottsford Road in the State Line Park area at West Point Lake.
A report was received over social media of a tree blown down onto I-20 eastbound near Fulton Industrial Boulevard blocking two lanes of traffic.
The Coweta County 911 center reported trees blown down around the intersection of Hewlette South Road and Bud Davis Road. The trees fell onto a power line and pole causing a fire on the pole.
A report was received on social media of a tree blown down across Highway 219 blocking the road near the intersection with Mountain Hill Road.
Hall County Fire/Rescue reported wind damage in and around the Aqualand Marina on Lake Lanier. Several trees were blown down along Lights Ferry Road. A marina dock with 20 people on board separated from its moorings, no injuries were reported. Two docks at the marina were deemed unsafe due to wind damage.
The Barrow County Emergency Manager reported at least a dozen trees blown down along Pleasant Hill Church Road between Highway 211 and Whispering Pine Road. Two houses were struck by falling trees causing significant damage to each. One minor injury was reported by a resident inside one of the homes.
The Hall Fire Department reported minor damage to a residence on Cedar Hill Drive due to lightning striking the home.
The broadcast media reported two trees blown down onto a house on Chambers Street in Rossville. No injuries were reported.
The Hall County Fire Department reported minor damage to a residence on Deep Court due to lightning striking the home.
The White County Emergency Manager reported extensive damage to a residence on New Bridge Road due to a fire caused by lightning striking the home.
The White County Emergency Manager reported a tree blown down onto power lines along Daybreak Road.
The Chattooga County Emergency Manager reported trees blown down, some onto power lines, from Mahan Road northwest of Summerville to Peach Blossom Lane on the north side of town. A large tree branch was blown down into the road around the intersection of Highway 27 and Greeson Street.
Atlanta/Fulton County Fire/Rescue reported a large tree blown down onto a house on West Wieuca Road N.E. in Chastain Park. No injuries were reported. .
The DeKalb County Emergency Manager reported trees blown down from around the intersection of Sycamore Street and East Ponce De Leon Avenue to Sams Street and Shadowmoor Drive at South Columbia Drive. One tree fell onto a house at the Sycamore Street location with one person injured. No information was available concerning the extent of their injuries.
