Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tucson AZ 350 PM MST Thu Jun 7 2018 .SYNOPSIS...Enough moisture for a slight chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms east of Tucson into this weekend. Dry conditions to occur Monday followed by better thunderstorm chances across the area by the middle of next week. && .DISCUSSION...Isolated to scattered coverage of showers and thunderstorms across about the southeast half of Cochise County this afternoon. A couple of rain gauges have recorded just a few hundredths of an inch, and these amounts are lower versus rain amounts to near three-tenths of an inch that occurred Wednesday afternon essentially across the same area. Expect showers and thunderstorms to dissipate or move east of the area shortly after sunset this evening. Various 07/12Z models depict southwesterly mid-level flow to prevail through Saturday, and the models also depict an enhanced moisture axis to remain across eastern sections of this forecast area. Thus, precip chances were adjusted to reflect a slight chance of afternoon and evening showers/tstms to occur east of Tucson Friday and Saturday. Less coverage of showers/tstms should occur Sunday as the mid-level flow becomes increasingly westerly. However, there should be enough residual moisture to justify a slight chance of showers/tstms across portions of Cochise County Sunday afternoon/evening. Have opted for precip-free conditions area-wide Monday as high pressure aloft is progged to consolidate over southeast Arizona or southwest New Mexico. However, given recent model performance, forecast confidence in a completely precip-free scenario for Monday is low. Thereafter, the various 07/12Z models suggest increased coverage of showers/tstms should occur next Tuesday through Thursday as the mid- level flow becomes more southerly or even southeasterly. Given this progged flow regime and per coordination with neighboring WFO's, there is at least a slight chance of showers/tstms by next Thursday mainly during the afternoon/evening hours. Forecast high temps Friday through Sunday will generally be at least a few degrees above normal, then daytime temperatures Monday through Thursday should moderate closer to seasonal normals. && .AVIATION...Valid through 09/00Z. FEW-SCT clouds at 6k-10k ft AGL and SCT-BKN clouds 10k-15k ft AGL mainly southeast of a line from KSAD to KFHU, along with isolated -TSRA/-SHRA. North and West of a KSAD to KFHU line, clear skies to SCT clouds at 9k-13k ft AGL. Clearing skies and diminishing precipitation chance aft 08/04Z. Surface wind SWLY/SLY at 10-15 kts thru 08/02Z, then surface wind less than 10 kts. Isolated -TSRA/- SHRA developing again Friday afternoon and evening east of a KOLS- KSAD line. Dry conditions should prevail Monday, then the coverage of showers and thunderstorms will gradually spread west across much of the forecast area Tuesday into next Thursday. Dry lightning and gusty outflow winds will be a concern with any storms that develop.
